I have looked through books and threads for opions on Phoebe and nothing! all I have come up with is that it's Greek and means "bright" when I've asked people about it everyone say's "lovely" but can only think of Phoebe Buffay from friends! my favouritre charracter acctually I love that shes nuts! I don't know ant Phoebe's is that because it's acctually horrid and I can't see it? I think it's beautiful!?

I think Phoebe is cute. I always have trouble spelling it, but I think that's just me. Blush

BuntyPenfold · 06/04/2011 13:14

I used to work with a Phoebe who was always called Beefy, which has really put me off a lovely name :(

GooseyLoosey · 06/04/2011 12:07

I know 4 little Phoebe's (aged between 4 and 10). The first time I met one it was a shock, but it has grown on me now.

katz · 06/04/2011 12:05

I have a Phoebe, it was one of the only girls name that DH and I could agree on. We liked the Greek mythology roots of the name, i think she'd the daughter of the gods of the earth and sky.

Thank you everyone I have made my decision Phoebe it is! I hope if it's a girl she can live up to the beautiful name picked by me and aided by mumneters! Thank you for enforcing my decision! Grin

I know someone with a Summer and a Phoebe. I prefer the name Phoebe.

olddeuteronomy · 06/04/2011 10:23

Phoebe was at number 23 in 2009 with 2074 babies called it.
I like it, personally and goes with your other names. It is much nicer than the other names on your list, and more classic. Only other one I like is Heidi but not sure how that would work on an adult.

systemsaddict · 06/04/2011 10:21

Oh it is a lovely name, I adore it.

Hulababy · 06/04/2011 10:20

It's quite a popular girl's name round here (Sheffield). Two of DD's good friends are called Phoebe. Thereis at least one other in DD's small school. There re 2 or 3 in the infant school I work at. DD's best friend called Phoebe has another Phoebe in her class too.

None of the Phoebes we know shorten their name.

But it is a nice, pretty name.

DimplesOHara · 06/04/2011 10:18

DD 6mths is a Phoebe. People always go 'ooh, haven't heard that in a while' when they hear her name. Loads of nickname possibilities as well - Pheebs, Phoebe Jeebies, Fi Fi (most children who we go to P&T call her this, always make me laugh as it seems to girly a nn for my chunky monkey Grin )
You will have to put up with people spelling it phEObe or even FeeBee (thanks MIL Hmm ) and I do have to resist the urge to say Phoebe Buffay when I have to give her full name at doc appt ect Confused

LuckyWeKeptTheCot · 06/04/2011 10:17

I knew a Penelope whose teacher always called her Penny-lope. Clearly not a student of Homer.

Bumpsadaisie · 06/04/2011 10:15

Mine is a Phoebe. Its great - feminine but potentially feisty and a bit tomboyish too. Everyone loves it and it really suits her.

One of the Titans. Also St Phoebe the Deaconess, who St Paul sent to Rome with the gospel etc etc. Good role model etc as she was one of the few women in the bible who was entrusted with doing sth important.

The health visitors will insist in putting "Phobe" in the little red book, though!

LuckyWeKeptTheCot · 06/04/2011 10:13

I know a 2 year old Phoebe. Lovely name. Cute and cool at the same time. And ancient too!

StrikeUpTheBand · 06/04/2011 10:12

Although Phoebe is the name of one of the Titans in Greek mythology. It's actually a very old name.

supadupapupascupa · 06/04/2011 10:11

I love the name!!! my friend has just named her daughter phoebe and i have a great great (insert a few) granny of the same name. Gorgeous.

StrikeUpTheBand · 06/04/2011 10:10

At the risk of outing myself I have a Phoebe and I felt the same as you - kept coming back to it. I love it, never regretted it and have had loads of lovely comments. It's a name people have heard of (so not weird) but not too popular. Do it!

peeriebear · 06/04/2011 10:08

My friends DD is Phoebe, I like it a lot, it doesn't have any negative connotations for me.

Viagrafalls · 06/04/2011 10:07

I know 2 Pheobes, both named after the super clever little sister in the book 'The Catcher in the Rye' its a beautiful name even if I still children find it hard to spell in a hurry. Wink

maddyer · 06/04/2011 10:03

SolarPanel · 06/04/2011 09:50

I like it. It's not in the top 100 but not all names can be there at once!

meditrina · 06/04/2011 09:48

What lovely names!

I know one little Phoebe in RL. I Like Skye, Elise and Lola, and Tilly as nn for Mathilda. Heidi is OK; Alexandra is lovely, but not so keen on Lexie, nor Summer.
