Please answer honestly - does Josh go with my surname??

We really like the name Josh/Joshua and it's about the only name that we both agree on. The trouble is that I immediately discounted it because I think it's too much of a mouthful when you say it with our surname. But what so you think - can we get away with it?? So our son would be called Joshua/Josh Wassall.
Your opinions are appreciated!!

I find Josh Wassel harder to say then Joshua Wassel. The extra syllables in Joshua break up the 's' s.

What about Jonah? I've just seen that on a thread.

Jonathon Wassall is lovely. There are not many Jonathon's these days and you could shorten it eventually to Jon.

I am a teacher and haven't found any problem ever with boys called Joshua or Josh.
It's a lovely name and most people don't know it is what Jesus was actually called (means 'salvation' Hebrew - Jesus is just the Latinized version).

It's ok with your surname, although not the easiest combination to pronounce.

I do like James / Jamie, I just wanted something slightly different, although I know that Josh is popular! Thanks for the suggestions...

Josh is a really terrible boys name, especially if you don't have the option of the full version (which you know you don't!). But that is bad too, even without the clashing surname.

~back to square one I'm afraid. Jack? another awful name (IMHO) but at least it goes with the surname. or any of the kings names will go fine..... (expect William!). But Charles/James/Edward/George/Henry.... all fine. In fact any of those very distinguished with your surname.

I think it is too much of a mouthful tbh! We had the same problem when we were considering Joshua with our surname, and remember discussing it with the midwife. It turned out her ds was called Joshua and she had a really similar surname to ours, one letter different! We had to backtrack fast and say of course it sounded fine with her surname.

At school you use both names a fair bit. Especially if you share a first name with someone in your class (which is likely as Joshua is very popular).

Also, I know you didn't ask but I am a teacher and Joshua is my number one 'naughty boy' name. Calling a child Joshua is the kiss of death if you ask me (and countless colleagues).

It ends up as Joss Washell when I try and say it three times in a row. It is a bit of a mouthful, particularly for anyone he comes across with a lisp.
