Girls names with a bit of attitude

I'm looking for names which aren't too typically girly and suggest a damsel in distress i.e Pansy, Poppy, Gabriella etc...these are all very nice but just aren't for me....according to me dh I'm looking for names with a bit of "spunk". We already have a Ben(Benjamin) and a Harry...oh and it's twin girls!! So i need two names :)

Definitely Zoe, we have one of those

I thought about Agathe and Agnes (DH is french, so they become Agate and Ayn-yes). Overruled by DH - just as well, ours is a real little Zoe.

A friend has an Athena. Definitely a strong name for a strong little girl who survived against all odds!

I love the name Orla - it means golden haired princess but I don't think it sounds too girly or flowery. There is an Orla who used to report the news from war zones on the BBC! Shock
I also love Ramona - it is pretty but you wouldn't mess with a Ramona either!
I agree Tara is a stronger name.
I think a lot of the Celtic names have a bit more spirit to them as well so maybe you should take a look at Scottish, Irish and Welsh names
eg Clodagh, Bronwyn, Seren, Eilidh, Niamh, Mhairi...

I'm looking for the same kind of names.
Agree that those which shorten to 'boyish' nicknames are good, i.e. Alex, George etc
I like Georgia and Morgan, and just saw Eden on a post which got me thinking about that.
Or you could go the unisex route and bring back Toni or Peta (I went to school with a Peta-Marie, pretty unusual)?!

Harriet is a name I adore, and it was the name my husband and I had agreed on if it suited our DD. (It didn't - I blurted out our daughter's name upon seeing her!) I think it might even mean strength.

But you already have a Harry......

I agree with earlier posts, Matilda is an excellent choice: strong but still feminine.

Freya is the name of a Norse goddess. Good strong name.
