What could Etta be short for?!

Hey all, I have fallen in love with the name Etta for a girl, but DP thinks it is too nickname-y for birth certificate...

The only name I can think of that it could be a nn for is Juliet, and that's pushing it. Plus I'm not too keen on it.

Any other suggestions?!

The only Etta I know is Henrietta.

But it could work for Agnetta?

thomasbodley · 06/04/2011 19:53

Dianetta?

Did you contraceptive pill fail to work then? Wink

Elisabetta is really pretty, but I think that Etta is fine to use on the birth certificate.

Both my Mum and Sister have more formal names on their birth certificates, but go by their nn's at all times. So the only times they are called by their 'proper' names is at the doctors/dentists and they both hate it! Mind you, neither of them became solicitors/politicians/etc so that might explain why the nn's work.

I had an Aunt Etta, sadly died a few years ago, she was wonderful.

Her full name was Hughetta though, after her dad Hugh. She never used that though, hated it in fact.

Etta on its own is just fine!

Surely it would be pronounced Veeoletta, being the Italian version? The French Violette could also have Etta for short.

HooverTheHamaBeads · 05/04/2011 21:01

Even Violet could be Ettie or Etta for short.

I love Violet.

Finessa · 05/04/2011 20:13

Violetta sounds like Vile Etta! But I was about to say I loved it Blush

mimmymouse · 05/04/2011 19:50

Rosetta is a family name here. And I know another baby girl whose name is just Etta on its own. Perfectly lovely. Good luck!

CharlieCoCo · 04/04/2011 23:34

juliet is a lovely name and would be good to have etta as a nn

seeker · 04/04/2011 22:23
