So we couldnt decide on a name before baby arrived and just hoped a name came to us when we saw him but it didnt.

Ive had a look at baby name meanings for some inspiration and found Ethan, which means strong, firm and long lived. I like this because he has been unbelieveably strong from day one.

I just cant find it in me to commit to it 100% (the same as with every other name we have thought of). If we choose it he will be Ethan David.

Any thoughts or suggestions most welcome :)

Alfie and Elliot / Alfie and Max / Alfie and Oliver / Alfie and George / Alfie and Isaac / Alfie and Jacob

Zoonose · 05/04/2011 20:16

Joseph nn Joe, or Joel?

carocaro · 05/04/2011 19:25

I have a Tom and Ben, would have to look up their meanings as I have forgotten!

lollystix · 05/04/2011 19:18

Just googled Jamie and you're right it's not so nice. I'm a fan of ben - my cousin is a Benjamin and his mum calls him benji. Luke, ollie (although me no liki personally!). God it's so hard - wait till u have ds3 and have further limited yourself by giving ds1 and 2 Scottish names....

tootiredtomakeupagoodname · 05/04/2011 18:21

Congratulations on the birth of your son! I liked Ethan for DS2 until Danni Minogue had her baby a couple of months before me, we named him Toby (means gift from God) which really suits him. I know an Evan, he is a bit soft Wink

growing3rdbump · 05/04/2011 18:13

Or Noah - I love that name.

growing3rdbump · 05/04/2011 18:12

Isaac? I know an Alfie and Charlie if that helps?

smashingtime · 05/04/2011 14:29

I quite like Ethan but there are quite a few around here and they all get shortened to 'Eeefff' which I can't stand!

I think a 'J' name would go well with Alfie - James or Jonah, Joshua etc.

justbeingmummy · 05/04/2011 13:45

I looked up the meaning of Jamie and James and its not very nice so have ruled it out.

Back to the drawing board!!

I wouldn't say Jamie is unisex at all, very masculine, and goes with Alfie and Ethan.

Hedwig3 · 05/04/2011 12:14

I know a Nathan with 3 sons, one of them is Ethan.

Evan
Heath
James with nn Jamie

justbeingmummy · 05/04/2011 00:48

Thanks lollystix im getting a bit fed up with everyone asking as its hard enough as it is!

I really like jamie apart from the fact that it is a unisex name (i know that sounds silly).

DS1 is Alfie x

Elliot? Jamie? Milo? Love Reuben btw. Freddie?

lollystix · 04/04/2011 23:31

Sleep on it for a while. It took 10 days to name ds3 (fergus- also meaning man of strength btw). We got so much pressure to choose from everyone but try and give yourselves some space and time. I got totally sick of the 'name please!' texts. Can we ask what ds1 is called?

justbeingmummy · 04/04/2011 22:59

Plus DC1 is Alfie so to 'th' and a 'f' is a bit too much I feel its gonna get a bit confusing. I really dont know what we are going to do.....im slighty starting to panic!

PurveyorOfBologna · 04/04/2011 22:55

Evan is similar. I like that (like Ethan too)

CaptainNancy · 04/04/2011 22:54

Evan?

I agree 2 'th' sounds is awkward...

Lonnie · 04/04/2011 22:50

I like Ethan David

UndiscoveredApprentice · 04/04/2011 22:45

ethan is gorgeous, but a wee bit too close to Nathan I feel.

I think Joshua goes well with Nathan, so does Jacob, and Reuben is another firm favourite of mine. All of them would suit David as a middle name.

justbeingmummy · 04/04/2011 22:43

Oh dear Im no nearer a decision Hmm
Everyone is on our case about it and im getting a bit stressed out, im feeling too tired to make such a big decision and I feel guilty because I feel he should have a name by now but im worried that we will never be sure and then end up regretting it.

Anyone else been in the same situation?

Ethan and Nathan are very similar. Personally I wouldn't use both.

lalabaloo · 04/04/2011 18:41

I love the name Ethan! Unfortunately my DH isn't convinced :(

jellybeans · 04/04/2011 16:54

Ethan is great.
