I´ve always thought that Imogen goes well with Jessica.

From your list I love Louisa & Hannah.

Doesn´t fit your "criteria" but Sarah?

mathanxiety · 05/04/2011 01:05

Daniella is quite 80s but more Italian?

Miranda is classical and yet hip.

stleger · 04/04/2011 23:03

I have a customer called Raphaella - I suppose 4 syllables is too much?

Finessa · 04/04/2011 22:48

Thanks, yes I love Nicola but I think it might be just a bit too retro at the moment Wink

And it's a seventies name. Perfection in name form! :)

SilentBob · 04/04/2011 14:11

Nicola. Best name ever. Trufax. :o

Finessa · 04/04/2011 13:59

Although not all 1970s names!

Thanks. I'm really struggling as I'm an older mum this time around and don't like a lot of the current trendy names. Lots of them are not just old ladies names to me but remind me of questionable nursing homes around about 1980 with a peculiar smell iyswim Hmm

I LIKE 1970s names! There I've said it :) But I'm thinking maybe I should be swayed by fashion a bit more. Which brings me back to traditional timeless names that are used through all generations.

I was looking through the family tree last night but didn't find any inspiration. There were some interesting names from 1800s though - Dorcas (F), Ambrosine (F), Oscar (M), Bertha (F) and Hiram (M). I'm tempted by Dorcas but would never ever do that to a child Grin

I like Tabitha i think it goes nicely with Jessica.

BikeRunSki · 04/04/2011 13:01

I know a Lucinda nn Luli. I rather like it. She's about 60 and had been Luli all her life.

notanumber · 04/04/2011 12:54

I met an Elianna the other day. I couldn't decide if it was a nice name or not tho'.

greenzebra · 04/04/2011 10:54

Mum2Pea · 04/04/2011 09:55

I work in a very multicultural travel company and we have 2 Claudias out of 55 people in our dept. (many more in other depts too)
All seem to want their name pronounced at Cloud-ia (or at least have never corrected anyone i know) and after so many years, have to be honest, would probably pronounce all Claudias like that until i was corrected by the person whose name it was

thumbwitch · 04/04/2011 04:41

I was at school with a Claudia and the only person who ever pronounced it Cloudia was the German teacher! I think you'd mostly be safe from that, unless you plan to live in Germany at some point. :)

mathanxiety · 03/04/2011 23:21

Rowena

mathanxiety · 03/04/2011 23:21

Cynthia
Keziah

Calista

DaphneHeartsFred · 03/04/2011 23:00

Helena?

Finessa · 03/04/2011 22:56

Ooh, Matilda isn't even in the top 100 here which either means she would be beaten up or maybe the same would happen as with the name Jessica and it would become more popular over the next few years.

Yes, I love Claudia but I would pronounce it Claw-dia and I think some people would say it Cloud-ia which I don't like.

Why don't babies come out with their name attached to make the whole thing so much easier?! Grin

Thanks for all your help everyone - so here's the latest list

Rebecca - love it but there may be too many Beccas around
Joanna - may be too similar to Jessica but there is a BIG age gap of 9 years (also she wants a girls name beginning with J!)
Louisa - love it but not sure about nns
Emily - top 10 - too popular in Scotland :(
Lucy - top 10 - too popular in Scotland :(
Lucinda - growing on me but not sure yet
Hannah - love it but doesn't sound quite right with surname
Matilda - seems very old lady to me but I know it's popular and is growing on me fast
Naomi - put off by supermodel
Stephanie - love this and there wouldn't be many around.

There weren't many Jessicas here 9 years ago so she has been the only one in her large primary school until two little ones started this year. I like names that are easily recognisable but not massively popular, which is not always easy as you never know which names will pop up next in the soaps/celebs.

Any comments please? Be gentle :) x
