I like it, but it might be because I had a mad passion for an unattainable Barnaby at university.

BeakerMeep · 12/04/2011 00:11

No. It's a bear's name.

flyingspaghettimonster · 11/04/2011 23:58

I knew a Barnaby - he was quite dashing at 18, now he appears from facebook to be a rock and roll dancer... if you are calling a kid Barnaby he kind of needs to be private school - Ox-bridge educated and with a 50's style newsreader accent...

pinkgirlythoughts · 11/04/2011 19:01

Not for me personally, but it's not a bad name. I went to school with a Barnaby, known by everyone as Barney. Very tall, sporty lad, though, built like a brick sh*thouse, for want of a better phrase, so not the kid of kid you'd tease over his name, whatever it was! His brother was Rupert, even taller, and even more well built, lol!

eatyourveg · 11/04/2011 10:37

yes from this camp

oohlaalaa · 11/04/2011 10:20

I love the name, would not have the guts to use, and my partner would never agree to it.

I have met a Barnabas, very very posh (think Eton and Oxford), with nn Barney. It suited him.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 11/04/2011 09:52

Not keen.

sahm3 · 11/04/2011 09:48

abolutely love it, it was our boy name for middle dd.

BeanaReena · 10/04/2011 23:38

I really like it (although probably wouldn't use it myself, but that's just because there are other names I like more.)

messylittlemonkey · 04/04/2011 14:01

Yes, I like it. but no Barney though.

Purplebuns · 04/04/2011 14:00

I like it a lot, also Barnabas, has a lovely meaning this one to.

TobyLerone · 04/04/2011 13:59

I love it. I used to go out with a boy called Barnaby. Known as Barney. He's now in one of the armed forces. Lovely name, lovely boy :)

onadifferentplanettoday · 04/04/2011 13:57

Yes though I may be biased as I have a teenage one, who has never been teased for having the same name as a bear of a dinosaur, that's like saying every Thomas will be called Tank Engine!

djinnie · 04/04/2011 13:55

vess · 04/04/2011 13:51

I loathe Barnaby bear, sanctimonious little toad
I cannot see beyond that I'm afraid

Yamba · 03/04/2011 21:18

Hate Barnaby.
Love Barney......top of my list for 3rd baby we're not having (sigh). DH thinks its a dogs name though.

shmoz · 03/04/2011 19:46

Barnaby is ok if you are Barnaby the bear

Barney is ok if you are a purple dinosaur

Barnes is only ok if your surname is Wallis and you invented the bouncing bomb

HTH

alemci · 03/04/2011 19:41

yes definitely Barnaby the bear is what I associate this name with

'Barnaby the Bears my name
never call me Jack or Jane'

banjomanjo · 03/04/2011 19:28

And re names holding people back, that is ridiculous!!!

banjomanjo · 03/04/2011 19:27

Yes!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 03/04/2011 19:26

I used to love Barnaby the bear!
Knew a very cool Barney at school so I quite like it.

WinkyWinkola · 03/04/2011 19:23

Well, it's only opinions. I love the name and maybe future Barnabys of the world will set it alight. But who cares as long as you like it.
