Eloise or Louisa

My very favourite name in the whole world (this week :)) for the bump is Eloise. DH is unsure about whether it tranfers well as an adult name and has also suggested Louisa which I like very much as well.

Which do you prefer and what is your opinion on Eloise? Middle name would probably be Kate. DD is Sasha Isobel.

I'm a Louisa too and have always really liked my full name but cringe at being called Lou. I suppose Eloise might be shortened to Ellie, but better than Lou!

BikeRunSki · 11/04/2011 16:07

They are both lovely and both on my list for if bump is a girl. I would say that Louise is possibly the more common of the two (ime) and, would prob go for Eloise.

emeraldislander · 11/04/2011 16:04

like Eloise or Héloise

lljkk · 11/04/2011 04:46

The only Eloise I know (11yo) is very high maintenance. Right proper little minx.
Louisa the next Isabel? Hunh? Confused Pretty obvious that "Ruby" already has that accolade.

Louisa is lovely, although I'm not wild on Lulu as nn. I know a 10yo Louise, and no one else called Louise or Louisa under 45.

thumbwitch · 11/04/2011 04:31

I like both of them, they both work well as adult names but I think Louisa goes slightly better with Kate.
Eloise Kate
Louisa Kate
yep, second one "scans" better for me. However - Sacha and Louisa both end in 'a' (if that matters at all to you) so Eloise would be more different, iyswim.

Pros and cons for both - or you could go for Elodie? I know a high up solicitor called that...

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 11/04/2011 04:25

Eloise

SolarPanel · 11/04/2011 00:50

LOL at 10 in every class. If there were 10 Isabellas in every class of 30 children (15 boys, 15 girls) that would mean two thirds of girls were called Isabella!

BeanaReena · 10/04/2011 23:39

I love Louisa

Emelene · 03/04/2011 14:19

I like Eloise best, but I prefer Louisa Kate over Eloise Kate.

HalleLouja · 02/04/2011 20:44

[Hopes that Louisa doesn't become the next new name though people might stop calling me Louise!]

Bue · 02/04/2011 18:19

They are both wonderful names but Eloise is quite trendy, which makes me lean towards Louisa. Louise is also lovely, and unusual these days, but I know you're not considering that! You really can't go wrong with any of these :)

MillsAndDoom · 01/04/2011 23:15

Eloise - beautiful

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 01/04/2011 23:13

'I reckon Louisa is going to be the next Isabella. In 5 years time there'll be 10 in every class.'

Really? Shock

How can I go from hardly knowing any others all my life to my name being in the top 10?

darlingdds2 · 01/04/2011 13:27

Elosia

SolarPanel · 01/04/2011 13:25

Louisa

Bucharest · 01/04/2011 09:45

I prefer Eloise.
I reckon Louisa is going to be the next Isabella. In 5 years time there'll be 10 in every class.

Mystic Buch strikes again.....

brightcopperkettles · 01/04/2011 04:00

Thanks all for the feedback! Some great responses and suggestions, and more food for thought :). Still leaning towards Eloise personally, but I would also still be happy with Louisa... might have to see what we prefer on the day! Thanks again.

Both lovely, I probably have a slight preference for Louisa. Also think Louise is great and underused.

Lonnie · 31/03/2011 16:44

how about my dds name combining the two making Eloisa she is 11 and I still adore it I have never once been given a negative coment about it people go oh thats a beautiful name. (or you could spell it Elouisa if you prefeer the u)

I do not think either have a issue to put into an adult setting. personally I prefeer Eloise to Louisa but I think Louisa is pretty

CPtart · 31/03/2011 14:38

Louisa,..and easier to spell!

NadiaWadia · 31/03/2011 14:32

Eloise is lovely (or Louise or Luisa). Louisa is fine but always seems a bit too Victorian to me, maybe because I associate it with the author of 'Little Women'.

helendigestives · 31/03/2011 14:19

Louisa is very pretty, and less popular at the moment.

BlueChampagne · 31/03/2011 12:37

Elouisa!

minipie · 31/03/2011 12:22

I like both. Prefer Eloise (and don't think it's a childish name) but it is v popular at the moment, so Louisa might be more unusual/less "of the moment".
