We are due a girl in 5 weeks but are completely at a loss when it comes to names! Any suggestions welcome! DH would like something a bit unusual but I am very aware that she will have to live with her name. DS (7) has a name that had fallen out of favour but has since made a huge comeback so would like something that doesn't feature on the top 10! TIA!

Jilted-yes, definitely rule out Evie! It is a lovely name but there are loads of Evie's round here! Also lots of flowery names-poppy,daisy,lily etc aswell as amelia,Amelie,Imogen...
DH doesn't think the fact a name is popular is a reason to discount it, he's probably right! Not that I'll admit that of course!
Also it's tricky finding a name that isn't already taken so to speak. Have fairly large family with lots of babies having recently arrived as well as living in quite a tight knit community where everyone knows everyone else!
Maybe I am obsessing now....! Grin
Thanks everyone for all the ideas though, it's great, lots of names I'd not even considered and have added a few more to the list!

Think that if you have a name you dislike you are bound to think about naming your child slightly more than the next person.

So, if you are looking for a 2 syllable girls name can I rule out Evie for you? There are just far too many where I live.

How about Heather, Caitlin, Emma, Lucy, Hannah, Carmen, Clara, Xanthe?

I'll throw in

Martha Esther Imogen Grace Alice Poppy Anna and Nell

Jilted-I think you are right! I seem to discount longer names without a second thought! DH thinks I am over thinking it, and that once baby arrives we will easily find a name that suits! I probably am over thinking it as I hate my name and it really doesn't suit me-to the extent that no family members use my name and still call me my childhood nickname!

From your list so far I'd pick Seren. The first 3 are a bit over done and I'm not keen on the others.

Apart from DS choice, they all seem quite short 2 syllable names so maybe that's what you like Smile
