Barnaby or Charlie?

Really struggling for a boy's name. I like Charlie but am worried that it's too mega-popular. I think Barnaby is lovely, cheery and laid-back sounding, but what do you think about teasing potential? Too like Barney the irritating purple dinosaur?

Nightmare finding a boy's name that is unusual but not ridiculously so. Girl's names are so much easier!

Charlie, but I am biased.

LynetteScavo · 22/03/2011 21:06

Barnaby is by far the best.

Charlie is very popular, but to me is a nn, rather than what should be on the birth certificate, or a class A drug.

Barney is laid-back surfer dude.

Barnaby was a boy I knew when I was younger - known as Barny. Now he's 35, Barny sounds rather childish. I like Charlie (Charles is a family name in my family so would be good) but it's too popular for me.

I'd pick Barnaby. I do like Charles, but Charlie is v. popular just now.

My mum nearly called my brother Barnaby 34 years ago...

He is incredibly pleased she didn't....Its just WAY too drippy for a grown man...She went with James in the end, a timeless classic.

If Charlie too popular, just have a re-think.

Charlie
Barnaby/Barney is cute but he wont want to be thought of as cute as a 6 foot teenager Grin

MerryMarigold · 22/03/2011 20:52

I LOVE Barnaby. I wanted Barnabus nn. Barney for ds1 and ds2, but dh wouldn't let me (not even because of purple dinosaur, he just didn't like it). Ds2 is SUCH a Barney and it suits him much more than his name.

Charlie just too...Charlie and Lola-ish. That's all I'll say!

DramaInPyjamas · 22/03/2011 20:51

Barnaby reminds me of the bear.

I like Charlie.

BelligerentGhoul · 22/03/2011 20:50

Barnaby is brilliant - I love it.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 22/03/2011 20:50

And I prefer Barnaby over Charlie which just doesn't sound like a proper name to me.

Onion1968 · 22/03/2011 20:49

Sorry but Barnaby is not good at all.

LetThereBeRock · 22/03/2011 20:41

I'm not fond of either, but I'd choose Charlie over Barnaby which is awful.
