Emmett reminds me of a short-form of emetic (the medical term for something to induce vomiting). So no, I'd deffo not go for Emmett.

NormanNorris · 23/03/2011 21:12

I don't really like names that sound like surnames but I don't mind Emmett. Em or Emmy not good for nicknames though

chipmonkey · 23/03/2011 19:46

If you like it, go for it. Don't mind what a bunch of biddies on t'internet say!

HopingForAZoo · 22/03/2011 22:15

Ahh well, at least some people like it. Grin thanks for your responses...

I like it! Definitely due a revival soon in Ireland I should think.

LaydeeC · 22/03/2011 19:36

I like it.
We considered it for our first one 14 years ago but never used it - also have strong irish connections so would have been more than appropriate.
I think there are a lot worse names tbh so can't understand why it seems to be attracting so much negativity

I'm not keen.

Rhubarbgarden · 22/03/2011 19:01

I really don't like it.

MrsBloomingTroll · 22/03/2011 17:42

Glad someone else has already mentioned the Cornish tourist thing. Not a good association, sorry!

mathanxiety · 22/03/2011 17:37

Yes, one T there Blush

mathanxiety · 22/03/2011 17:36

Not bad. Robert Emmett made a famous speech from the dock before he was taken away to be hanged, drawn and quartered in Dublin, 1803ish...

It would definitely identify your digging foot if you were in Ireland.

PepsiPopcorn · 22/03/2011 15:44

I don't like it, sorry.

chipmonkey · 22/03/2011 15:41

It's not Turkisb, it's Irish! Not one of my favourites, though, it's a bit 1970's Dublin for me!

CaptainBarnacles · 22/03/2011 12:51

I love it. But I would spell it with one 't' which is the Irish spelling. Am suprised that people feel so strongly about it!

Didn't know about Twilight character.

Trousers · 22/03/2011 12:46

I like it, has no negative connotations for me.

BornAgainDomesticGoddess · 22/03/2011 12:42

No. It sounds like "Mehmet" which is fine if you are Turkish, but I suspect you are not.

Well done for considering something different though Smile

LouMacca · 22/03/2011 12:27

That was my first thought usedtobeahappycamper Smile

It's awful.

mrsdaz · 22/03/2011 11:31

I like it :0) however mainly due to twilight character

usedtobeahappycamper · 22/03/2011 11:00

Wasn't Emmett the next door neighbour of Hyacinth Bucket?

kiwidreamer · 22/03/2011 08:27

I like it, not sure the Twilight character will have the same impact as Bella / Edward / Jacob, I wouldn't let that stop you if you like it.

Langley makes me think CIA (or is it FBI) Headquarters according to American TV!!

seaweedhead · 22/03/2011 07:01

That's exactly what I thought wellwisher

Never heard of the Twilight character though...

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/03/2011 06:59

Makes me think of "emetic." Have you had much morning sickness? Grin

cellini · 22/03/2011 06:11

as long as they never go to the South West they'll be fine.

nooka · 22/03/2011 06:09

Twilight. And not really.
