How soon is too soon?

How far into the pregnancy do you tend to start thinking of names? I am only 12 weeks and find myself daydreaming, thinking of possible names. I know, I know, far too early Blush

But some suggestions?

I kind of like classic names, not chavvy dare I say it, but not too old fashioned either.

So far I have this list:

Olivia
Ruby
Chloe
Emily
Amelia
Sophia
Sophie
Daisy
Katie
Sienna
Amber
Rosie
Eloise
Libby

Oliver
Jack
Daniel
James
Samuel
Ethan
Lucas
Jacob
Mason
Toby
Benjamin
Aiden

We have a bit of a tricky surname too, a vegetable, so colours are out like Scarlett. I know amber is in there, I might be able to get away with that one!

Ellie & Ethan is nice and not too rhymey, James as a first name has made a come back recently and I surprised myself by quite liking it.

How about Adam?

UrsulaBuffay · 21/03/2011 16:33

I think Libby 'goes well' with Ellie though I probably prefer Sophia (I like sp Sofia), do like Aiden I think it grows nicely.

I quite like Ethan James (I think James is a definite middle name) Then it would be EJP, same initials as DD. I quite like that.

Ursula, you are on my wavelength. I am updating my spreadsheet as we speak! :)

I don't think Olivia is out really but Oliver would be for me. I love the nn Liv.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 21/03/2011 16:23

Ursula, yes you appear to be right. Hmm... olivia I might end up shortening to liv/livvy. Oh I don't know! Grin Nicer parts defintiely, suffering HG so thinking o fnames is a nice distraction from feeling rubbish!

Port, no, no, you didn't offend Grin For the record is a pepper a fruit or a veg?! Grin There, I've done it, it's out there now!

You surely can't have an Eloise then with an Ellie? I'd avoid Oliver/Olivia too (Ollie?)

Never too soon, it's one of the nicer parts of pregnancy!

PortBlackSandwitch · 21/03/2011 16:10

Those two would be my two choices too (sorry if i offended)...

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 21/03/2011 16:07

Port, it is neither carrot, broccoli nor sprout! Heck, it might even be a fruit Confused I don't think the initials will make it a problem, possibly just colours. It begins with P if you want to guess without me outing myself, as I guess it isn't as common as Jones or Smith!

I think my faves are Amelia Rose and Aiden James

Olivia - Very pretty
Ruby
Chloe - Waaaay too popular
Emily
Amelia - like this too and Millie for a nn (but it is an A)
Sophia
Sophie
Daisy - don't like
Katie - Kates and Catherines are going to be very popular because of the wedding
Sienna
Amber - like this too
Rosie
Eloise - very nice (reminds me of the song but that's no bad thing)
Libby

Oliver - Toooo popular
Jack - same
Daniel
James
Samuel
Ethan - love this
Lucas
Jacob - and this
Mason - meh
Toby
Benjamin
Aiden - Really like this (see my previous post)

PortBlackSandwitch · 21/03/2011 15:38

If it's more of a 'joke' vegetable i wouldn't go for a name that begins with A Grin (which is a shame as i love the name Aiden on your list)

A Broccoli is fine
A Carrot would probably be ok
A Sprout wouldn't

BellaBearisWideAwake · 21/03/2011 15:37

DH and I decided on a boy's name and a girl's name at 10 weeks. Am now 38 weeks and we haven't changed our minds!

PepsiPopcorn · 21/03/2011 15:34

I like nearly all of those! :)

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 21/03/2011 15:05

Tigana, No I won't, I'm just scouting for ideas at this stage. Obviously, everything I think of DH will hate so I need an extensive list :)

We already have an Ellie so don't want anything like Lily, too many Ls.

Pah...I'm not even pg yet...just don't commit to a name too soon! (as if!)
