What can Millie be a NN for?

Finally given birth to a beautiful baby girl. After all the indecision she just looks like a Millie. Not keen on Millicent but want a 'proper' name. Any ideas?

Mildred - sorry

LittleMilla · 24/03/2011 21:38

Ah, thanks Star. I am now the grand old age of 30 and grew up with people taking the piss out of me. But over the years I've grown to love it and being 35 weeks pg have a new found respect for my mum taking the punt all those years ago. We aren't from posh stock or anything...so she was quite daring at the time!

StarExpat · 24/03/2011 21:30

Oh camilla. That is beautiful :)

LittleMilla · 24/03/2011 20:55

My full name is Camilla. And I am known as Milla, Millie, Mills, Manilla.

Congrats! x

Janoschi · 24/03/2011 19:20

Smilla and Milla are Scandinavian options...?

SarahScot · 24/03/2011 19:13

Just went for plain old Millie in the end. Still not registered her yet though so we've got time to mull it over.

Fair enough then MrsGruffalo Smile

EllenJane1 · 20/03/2011 21:21

Or Melisende

EllenJane1 · 20/03/2011 21:19

Millisande as a softer variant of Millicent.

jellybeans · 20/03/2011 21:10

I would just have Millie. I know 3 who are Millie on the BC. I think it can get a bit confusing if the full name has a different initial to the nn. eg for Amelia Smith, If they are known as Millie; are they actually A Smith or M Smith for example.

Trinaluce · 20/03/2011 21:00

Family member of mine is Millie short for Miriam. DC2 is due on her birthday and we are giving the name serious consideration, even though it's a little 'old' Smile

CharlieCoCo · 20/03/2011 20:38

i also love amelie. i have a feeling its going to become really popular soon though so you may have a lot of amelies when you child goes to nursery/school.

MrsGruffalo · 20/03/2011 20:26

Hi JJJ
I'd just made the jump that as Millie/Milly can be a NN for Emily, and Emmeline is a form of Emily, the NN would still apply
Emmeline is my favourite name in the world and if I have a DD next, she will be Emmeline Claire, NN Millie :)
It might not be an official NN, but we will use it as one :) x

NadiaWadia · 17/03/2011 13:27

Milena or Mila?

Millie is lovely but not a grown-up full name. Needs to be the nickname for something, IMO.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 17/03/2011 09:51

MrsGruffalo, we've got an Emmeline and have never thought of shortening it to Millie, is Millie usually a NN or Emmeline?

All the Millies I know are either Amelia or just plain old Millie.

Congratulations from me too.
