Due very soon and love this name - just canvassing opinions. Is this the best spelling of Mai? How do people feel about hyphenated names?

Erin May (separate names) would be my choice. Don't hyphenate!

bumpybumpcakes · 14/03/2011 11:14

Thanks all - that is food for thought! We have a long surname too so maybe is a bit of a mouthful Smile

May or Mae.

Agree that every second girl seems to have the middle name May/Mae at the moment. Why is that?

Don't hyphenate.

Hedwig3 · 14/03/2011 10:27

The beauty of the name Erin is in it's simplicity so hyphenating it spoils it completely in my opinion.

FranSanDisco · 14/03/2011 10:17

I like Erin and May but not hyphenated.

MmeLindt · 14/03/2011 10:15

Sorry, agree with everyone else.

Erin - gorgeous

Erin-Mai - bit of a mouthful

MamaLazarou · 14/03/2011 10:12

Mai is horrid, sorry. Erin is lovely, though.

pipKA · 13/03/2011 23:43

My DS would have been Erin if he had been a girl so I obviously love the name. Mae/May/Mai is everywhere as a hyphenated middle name so I would steer clear personally.

DancingThroughLife · 13/03/2011 23:02

Well, she may or she may not.

Definitely don't hyphenate. You'll ruin an otherwise lovely name. Love Erin. Know lots of fab ones.

Clary · 13/03/2011 23:01

yy to what others say. Erin is very nice, Erin-Mai just sounds odd. How do you day Mai? My? or May?

Littlefish · 13/03/2011 22:56

There are a thousand children with a hyphenated name and Mai/Mae/May in every school/village/town/city in the country.

It's really, really common (as in frequently used) at the moment.

Erin is lovely. Just don't bother with the hypen or the Mai.

PaisleyLeaf · 13/03/2011 22:54

I like Erin. But agree with the others about -Mai
Mae/May

PepsiPopcorn · 13/03/2011 22:52

Not keen on Erin, it's a bit faddy and awkward to say.

May as a first name would be nice.

theresapotatoundermysink · 13/03/2011 22:01

Erin is a nice name. I don't like May as a middle name purely for the reason its SO common nowadays. Definitely not hyphenated.

olivertulliver · 13/03/2011 21:57

Love Erin.

Don't like Erin-Mai, soz.

GetOrfMoiLand · 13/03/2011 21:56

Erin is very nice, bit don't like hypenated names (what's the point?) and every baby girl born this decade seesm to have May/Mai as a middle name. Like every child born in the 70s/80s seems to have Louise as a middle name.

How about just Erin?

Eglu · 13/03/2011 21:56

Don't like hyphenated names at all. And how are you pronouncing Mai. I would assume it is My, but think you may be going for May, in which case spell it May, or possible Mae
