Due very soon and love this name - just canvassing opinions. Is this the best spelling of Mai? How do people feel about hyphenated names?

Bagpusstree - our Erin is Erin Grace but twin2 had he been a girl was going to be Grace Lily and ds3 had he been a girl would have been Lily - lovely names Grin not that you are probably interested WinkGrin

I actually know an elderly lady named Maia and you're right it IS Welsh and quite nice in it's own right, I just don't think it looks right at all with Erin spelt that way!!

I have an Erin, so I always answer Erin threads Grin. It is a beautiful name, and I agree with most of the above, in that -Mai spoils its simplicity. Go with it as a middle name I say.

Mine is Erin Lily (after my nan!) And nope, Erin Hilda wasn't even considered Grin

Mai is welsh and french for May. In Welsh as someone said it's pronounced My, in French a bit like 'meh' Grin

5Dollar, most people say they choose May/Rose in honour of their grandmothers.

Funny how no-one chooses to honour grannies called Beryl, Mavis, Doreen, etc.

I really don't get hyphenated names at all - and I definitely don't get why 90% of them are Xxxx-May/e/i or Xxxxx-Rose. Why tack another name onto a perfectly lovely first name, and especially when it's just a filler name like May or Rose? I don't get it. May and Rose are lovely as first names - why are they so overly used as filler and middle names?

I have a friend with a Xxxxx-Rose and I'd love to ask her why hyphenate, and why Rose, just to get an actual answer out of someone, but of course it's none of my bloody business. Grin

Ha ha GetOrf my middle name is Louise (70s child) and DD2's (10 mths) is, ahem, May.
Agree with everyone else re hyphenation and spelling.

Mai (pron. My) is not a made up spelling - it is a Welsh form of Mary and is my dd1's middle name for that reason. Agree about no hyphen though.

Erin May is my choice for a girl. love Erin, and both my grandmothers had May in their name (one as first, one as second)

A large number of girls at the moment are something-Mae/Mai/May or something-Rose or have either of the names as a mddle name.

I agree with the others just use Erin.

know someone with an Ellie-Mai (when she was born) and she put it on all the birth announcements, on the facebook pics/status, on the text messages, but after a while (baby is about 18mo now) she has gradually dropped the "Mai" more and more because most people pronounce it "My" or just put "May" whenever they write it down for bday cards or whatever. In my opinion it just looks a little bit like you're trying to change the spelling for the sake of being different. I know my friend was, and it backfired! Erin May or Erin Mae are lovely names!

Also agree, Erin very nice alone.

I'd have May as her middle name (but not with the Mai spelling - I really don't like that, sorry).
