Our dog is called Saxon, cannot imagine it as a human's name at all :o

OFGS · 18/03/2011 17:54

GIRLS:

Athena is gorgeous.

I like Ivy, Pearl and Skye very much. Simple, unfussy, feminine.

Clementine is sweet, but it does remind me of the orange.

I like Octavia, but it could beseen as a bit pretentious?

I really dislike Tabitha (fussy, prissy, Tabby is an awful nickname), Blossom (frilly, a bit silly) and India/Savannah (sound like something an Eastenders character would call their child). Ivy

The only one I like is Thaddeus. Yes, it is a bit poncy, but it is still cool Grin and I love Thad as a nickname.

The rest are terrible. Balthazar and Saxon are just ponce-gone-mad.

sadiesadiemarriedlady · 18/03/2011 17:24

My favourite person in the world is a Seth

babyapplejack · 18/03/2011 14:06

Clementine -> Too posh, name of an orange anyway.
Octavia -> Too posh, name of a car anyway
Ivy -> poison ivy
Athena -> Quite like, would have to be able to carry if off
Pearl -> Old lady/jewel
Blossom -> Strange
Tabitha -> Hate this, OK for cat
Skye -> A bit odd
India -> A country
Savannah -> Not keen

Chester -> Odd
Balthazar -> Extremely odd
Roman -> Chelsea owner!
Thaddeus -> WTF?
Seth -> Emmerdale
Saxon -> Shock
Jasper -> Carrot? Cat?

Actually I don't like any!

HotchpotchHoney · 18/03/2011 14:02

chester is my dogs name!
Jasper was on my short list for my now boringly named William!

ValiumSingleton · 18/03/2011 13:57

@ mathanxiety, lol at Saxon being the name of the child of a white supremicist. Yes I can see that! yikes. Dislike it even more now.

ValiumSingleton · 18/03/2011 13:56

The car will be gone in ten years. Less time probably!

LadyMetroland · 17/03/2011 23:14

No-one seems to have mentioned Skoda Octavias. Please don't give your daughter the same name as a popular family car.

I like Clementine and Roman from your list.

mathanxiety · 17/03/2011 22:25

Clementine -- neither posh nor chav, nice
Octavia -- tth on anyone who isn't Italian
Ivy -- a bit twee
Athena -- lovely, old fashioned, elegant
Pearl -- lovely, old fashioned, classic
Blossom -- hippie
Tabitha -- ok
Skye -- trendy in a bad way; has moved beyond hippie into the more plastic earrings/orange foundation parts of mainstream
India -- going downmarket
Savannah -- downmarket/trendy, fashionable as opposed to stylish

Chester -- middle aged or downright old man
Balthazar -- nice, arty
Roman -- nice, international
Thaddeus -- I love this name, very nice
Seth -- hissing of snakes
Saxon -- the name of a child of a white supremacist
Jasper -- pet name (know one dog and one cat with this name)

I like Clementine, Athena and Pearl for girls.
For boys I like Balthazar, Roman and Thaddeus.

PuraVida · 17/03/2011 21:59

If you can have roman and Saxon as names could you have celt? Viking? Perhaps pict? (tries to remember ancient history)

jimswifein1964 · 17/03/2011 21:51

Seth is lovely lovely lovely lovely Smile

ValiumSingleton · 17/03/2011 21:48

I know a good few Thaddeuses in Ireland. And a lot of polish people use Thaddeus (or the polish version of it) so it's actually in the top fifty names in Ireland I think! I like it.

The rest of your boys names are.... well. Chester, yes, woof woof. Balthazar, very very very try hard.
Roman - no. The C word.
Seth - ok but I don't like it. Prefer Saul
Saxon - [clutches sides laughing] anglo is hanging in the air.
Jasper - ok but he'd have a very annoying mother.

Girls names, I like Pearl the best.

popsicle1984 · 16/03/2011 22:04

What varied responses!!

I guess as I like unusual names not everyone is going to like them! I would like to say that some of the names I like but wouldn't be brave enough to use, just thought I try them out and it seems I was right!

I think my faves are Roman and Octavia as my fathers family are Italian and my name is v v Italian so I think we could pull it off!

If I start a post again I will keep in mind that there's a thin line between honest and bitchy, ouch!
