Imogen - nicknames

I am trying to find a name I love and keep changing my mind on a daily basis. I don't want one that's too popular. I really love Imogen at the moment. Would this name get shortened by people to anything?

All the ones Ive known have been Immy. Could also be

Ginny
Geni
Immo

My name is Imogen, my close family or people who have known me since i was very young call me ginny (my auntie called me ginny-pig and my dance teacher calls me ginny-bear) or Gin for short, my younger family members call me pigeon or gigi because they can’t say my name yet. My friends call me Immy, Im or my full name. And people such as my teachers call me either my full name or Im. Other people i’ve know in the past have called my Ims or Gen. Hope this helps.

Imogen (if that is what she was called) is probably about 7 years old now...

frozenbanana · 21/12/2018 12:43

I have a friend whom I call Imagine Grin

ladycarlotta · 19/12/2018 14:17

I'm an Imogen. Never Immy, which I loathe. My friends have always settled into calling me Imo, and it's the nickname I prefer although I've never asked anyone to call me it.

Family nns are Gin or Pimms (why so boozey?) - every now and then some wiseacre sings 'Imagine'. I wouldn't worry about what similar-sounding words people might find for it, kids are buggers and will find something to pick on if they want to. I've never had any trouble in that respect.

foxtiger · 19/12/2018 10:51

I think Immy is the one that is most likely to happen naturally.

RedDwarves · 18/12/2018 07:50

I know two Imogens - one gets Gen (prn. Jen) and one gets Immy. I think these would be the most common.

SuperstarDJ · 18/12/2018 06:59

ZOMBIE

ZebraKid71 · 18/12/2018 06:32

I really like it as a full name, I disregarded it because I don't like the nns. The ones I know go by Immy, Mog and Midge, all of which I dislike. Its getting quite popular in my area, I know quite a few under three, then none until about 20yo.

jessstan2 · 18/12/2018 02:19

Imogen is a gorgeous name.

People I know who are called Imogen are nicknamed Imo or Immy, both of which are delightful.

octoberfarm · 18/12/2018 02:04

I've known one who goes just by Imogen and another by Immy. Also met an Imogen who went by Smidge in the past too!

Chloejean · 18/12/2018 01:19

My friend goes by mo sometimes lol

samstown · 12/03/2011 19:13

I like the name Imogen I went to school with an Imogen who used to get called 'Immo' (which I really dont like!)

I know someone who called their daughter Immy on the birth certificate...

MrsHerculePoirot · 12/03/2011 19:13

My DD is Imogen and we usually called her Immy or Imogen - one of her uncles calls her Imo, but I'm not so keen on this as it sounds a bit like Emo! I imagine her friends or she will decide what she wants to be called as she gets older tbh. I still love the name and no-one else I know (at the moment) has that name and loads of people commented when she was born on how much they liked the name, not that it matters what anyone else thinks obviously, but it was nice at the time to get lots of compliments on our pfb!

tokentotty · 12/03/2011 19:00

Ours is a Mimi (often Mimi Moo Moo) thanks to her big brother who's only 17 months older than her.

blondiep14 · 12/03/2011 19:00

I love Imogen and also wanted it for number 2 (who was a DS!) I think I would have gone for Mimi as a nn but sure everyone else would have shortened to Immy.

cece · 12/03/2011 18:55

All the ones I know get called Immy

eurycantha · 12/03/2011 18:53

I know 6 Imogens Sevenoaks /Tonbridge area between ages 9 and 19 all are known as immy.

Cortina · 12/03/2011 14:46

Son's friend is called Mimi - by the school too. Quite like.

Abcinthia · 12/03/2011 14:28

My DD is called Imogen and I mainly call her Imo or Immy or sometimes she is Immy-Nimmy-Moo-Moo though Grin

CountBapula · 12/03/2011 11:56

The character in the book and film Fried Green Tomatoes was called Idgie as a NN for Imogen.

JessieEssex · 12/03/2011 11:44

I have a 7mo Imogen and she's Immy or Im most of the time. Think Imo sounds a bit jolly hockeysticks. Love Imogen as a full name though, so we're not desperate to shorten it, it just happens organically really.

ithaka · 11/03/2011 17:05

I have a little Imogen. Everyone calls her Imogen, except for close family and friends. To us she is Squidgy, Idqey, Squidge or Idge. It suits her as she is a squidgy, cuddly sort of girl with mad hair and a cheeky streak a mile wide.

Imogen seems to have completely displaced the Isabel group of names round here.

Immie seems to be the most frequent nn, also Imo.
