eeeugh.
sorry

ThisFeelsWeird · 11/03/2011 20:16

It's very pretentious I'm afraid.

Plus, get your jollies on??? I'm afraid this is what boys at my school used to say if they caught one another ogling a girl, or worse, playing wth loose change in his pocket.

tigermummy35 · 11/03/2011 18:18

You're a jolly fellow aren't you a jolly-un.....

No, sorry, I don't get that - I didn't think it was a real name!

fedupwithdeployment · 11/03/2011 11:50

I like it, and we almost called DS1 Jolyon. He is called Joss (Jocelyn), which is probably almost as controversial!

CPtart · 11/03/2011 11:31

Jolly on??????

cumbria81 · 11/03/2011 10:25

it's frightfully posh.

Onion1968 · 10/03/2011 23:14

It's awful. Pretentious.

Artichokes · 10/03/2011 21:49

I know a Jolyon (pronounced Jo-Lee-Yun). He a bit posh but bot stupidly so.

I love the name & it's on my mythical DC3 list. But according to many I'm not to be trusted when it cones to boy's names. My other two favs are Bede and Eli...

Underachieving · 10/03/2011 21:40

I know a Jolyon who uses Joe for short. He pronounced his name Joe-Le-Un and it sounds a bit like Julian said with a heavy Birmingham accent (although neither he nor have one). He is the opposite of posh:- Council house, criminal record, bull mastiff.

fifi25 · 10/03/2011 20:42

same here

mathanxiety · 10/03/2011 19:44

Jolly hockey sticks springs to mind. Very rah rah.

ShowOfHands · 10/03/2011 19:19

Pronunciation here.

But google does reveal that some people pronounce it JOLL YUN or JOLLY UN.

ShowOfHands · 10/03/2011 19:16

The Jolyon I know isn't posh in the slightest.

Yes, we know a 'jolly - on' - I think that is the usual way of saying..

PaisleyLeaf · 10/03/2011 18:54

Jolly on? That's worse!

Umnitsa · 10/03/2011 18:50

I think it is really lovely. (Disclaimer: The Forsythe Saga aficionada here as well!)

reup · 10/03/2011 18:49

The jolyon i know pronounces it more like jolly not joe ly. He hates it and is always joe. His children have very plain names. He is from very posh background.

PepsiPopcorn · 10/03/2011 18:42

It does sound extremely posh. Prefer Julian.

ShowOfHands · 10/03/2011 17:46

Yes like Joeliun. It's a variant of Julian but perfectly acceptable name in its own right. Like Julius which is also a variant form.

Most names have variant forms like er Hannah/Anna/Hannelore/Chana/Nan/Ann etc.

PaisleyLeaf · 10/03/2011 17:38

So it's like Julian, but it's Joeliun?
Just sounds like a silly way of saying Julian to me then.

KTDace · 10/03/2011 17:36

I know a gorgeous Jolyon, he is just the cutest 2 year old in the world and because of him I think the name is fab.

NettoSuperstar · 10/03/2011 17:30

Poncey, but fine if he's going to EtonGrin

ShowOfHands · 10/03/2011 17:28

Joe Lee Un.

CrazyHorse · 10/03/2011 17:27

OK, if you can afford private school fees.
