Barbie I'm working on repopulating the house with Sodor names WinkGrin might be a Rusty next!

stuffedmk · 14/03/2011 12:20

DH really wants Tom for bump and I really like Thomas or Tom but really dislike Tommy as a nn (don't know why Confused) so am worried about using it in case he gets called Tommy. Hmm

BarbieLovesKen · 14/03/2011 09:27

Thanks again all.

Figgyrolls I adore the name Flora.. Grin

It's a solid classic but it's a bit too popular for my liking.

At work every other woman I know has a DH or DP named Tom.

eurycantha · 12/03/2011 19:28

A great name my nephew is Thomas Edward ,never had a problem being compared with Thomas the tank engine.[Probably cos he`s not blue]

ThatllDoPig · 11/03/2011 23:07

Thomas is a lovely, classic name. And I love Tom too. It was top of my list, but DH didn't like it.
Mind you, it is v popular round here. There are three just down this road that I know of.

BetamaxBandit · 11/03/2011 22:37

I like it but it's ridiculously popular round here

CharlieBoo · 11/03/2011 22:30

dull and boring for me....like Tom though.

agora1 · 11/03/2011 21:10

If I'd had a boy that would have been his name. Love it!

ilovesprouts · 11/03/2011 18:18

love thomas

unfitmother · 11/03/2011 18:13

Love it - am biased though!

Figgyrolls · 11/03/2011 18:12

But so does my Lurpack! Grin or any butter if not in the fridge!

Figgyrolls · 11/03/2011 18:11

Well they used to have a marathon in London by that name, and some say it spreads easily Grin

BarbieLovesKen · 11/03/2011 14:12

AAaarrgh you have to reveal now!!!!

It might not be as "out there" as some, however it is versitile and you can be prime minister, a solicitor or a rock star with the name and its variations. I love it and you can go more wacky with a middle name if you want to, it is classic but also modern whilst I don't think it dates either. Its a good choice Grin and I have one. Leave wacky to the girls names (dd has one which you either love of hate but am not revealing!)

BarbieLovesKen · 11/03/2011 11:39

Thanks again all!. Really think we're going to "go" with Thomas - the tank engine thing doesnt bother me in the slightest.

I have a Tom.

Annoyingly people call him Thomas at times, despite me never referring to him as such Hmm

Apart from that small niggle I love it. Popular for a good reason I say.

His nn is either

Tom Tom

or

Tomathan (because of his brother's name)

supadupapupascupa · 10/03/2011 20:48

I also have a Thomas. He is nicknamed;
Tom
Tom-Tom
Tommy
Tomcui (polish version of tommy I think)
Tombliboos

I love how versatile it is, and we have had absolutely no association with the train as yet....
We like the fact that people can call him what they like (and people will do this anyway) and we like all the variations.

pamelat · 10/03/2011 20:47

One of the best boys names out there. We couldnt use it because of our surname.

GwennieF · 10/03/2011 20:43

Mine's a Tommy!

fifi25 · 10/03/2011 20:40

Tommy for me Smile

ThisFeelsWeird · 10/03/2011 20:21

It's a great name, I like it shortened to Tom. Yes, popular, but for a good reason. All the Toms I know are delighted to be associated with T the TE!

Caro1302 · 10/03/2011 20:12

We have a Thomas and the name suits him totally. I still love his name just as much as when we chose it. He gets Tom-Tom as a nickname Smile

deepdarkwood · 09/03/2011 12:54

We have one too - and even though it's always said to be common, because of the variants (Tom, Tommy, Thomas) it can still feel 'yours' imo. We have always used Thom (cf Thom Yorke from Radiohead Grin) - in a poncy attempt to create a little bit of differentiation.

expectingno3 · 09/03/2011 12:51

I prefer Tom to Thomas. Tom is the name my DH is really pushing for. I'm still dithering, but if we go for it, I'd like the baby to have a bit more of a funky middle name! Again, its the train thing that gets me...
