How about Coralie?

cowboylover · 11/03/2011 21:54

I didnt realise that Connie was not a 'full' name until I read this!

I like Cora and agree it is unusual without being weird. But but Mums name is Coral and it reminds me of it so that might be why I am drawn to it.

FireAndRain · 11/03/2011 20:21

Thanks all, it's going to be between Connie & Cora - we'll wait and see what she looks like before deciding x

Cora, I would have loved to be able to have this but DH put a vito on it as our last name begins with a Co. And thought it was too much.

pastahat · 10/03/2011 10:27

Agree Cora is lovely elegant name, would have had it on shortlist for Dd2 if had gone with our surname..

fifi25 · 10/03/2011 10:22

I dont think its a current trend my daughters nearly 3, its just personal preference. I dont like the name Constance but love Connie so i cant see the problem with using Connie and i dont think its seen as a NN. The name was very popular in the 1950's as a name in its own right. It could also be short for many other names Smile

nooka · 10/03/2011 06:10

Constantine is a male name (used by a number of Popes), so no, but they do have a common root (Constans). I agree with seeker, I don't like nns given as formal names (ie on BC). But I know that it's a common trend so your dd woudln't be unusual if that's what you choose (I just think it's good to have choice).

I've a friend with a dd called Maeve, never really liked it before, but it's grown on me (pronounced May with a soft v sound on the end)

MissHavishamsDress · 10/03/2011 05:43

It's between Maeve and Cora- slightly prefer Cora as it's more unusual and makes me think of Coral. Elegant vintage name.

fifi25 · 09/03/2011 13:45

I dont think Connie is a Cutesy name really and is used as a name in its own right. Is Constance not short for Constantine, i could be wrong.

seeker · 09/03/2011 13:39

Because she may not want to have a 'cute" name when she's a grown up. I think people should be able to choose their own nick names, or even whether or not to have a nickname at all.

fifi25 · 09/03/2011 13:35

Why do you need to put Constance on the birth certificate. No one calls her Constance and never will. They might if i put it on her birth certificate. Constance wouldnt go with her middle name either so i just used Connie Smile

seeker · 09/03/2011 13:09

Connie needs to be Constance on the birht certificate really. I love it, and wanted it for dd but it wouldn;t go with her last name. (Just to warn you, she is 15 now, and whenever I tell her this, she is completely horrified!)

Clemency?

Underachieving · 09/03/2011 13:05

Love Cora
Connie is sweet
Maeve is, I think, going to be one of those trendy names that age badly (think Kevin).

PepsiPopcorn · 09/03/2011 12:27

How about Cara?

(Cora reminds me of apple corers, sorry!)

fifi25 · 09/03/2011 10:55

Ive got a Connie-Jean 2, dont like Constance though.

cece · 08/03/2011 21:16

How do you say Maeve? I am leaning towards that one as I am not keen on names with a hard c sound at the start.

TooManyBlossoms · 08/03/2011 21:10

I like Cora the best.

pilates · 08/03/2011 21:05

Connie is my favourite

randomimposter · 08/03/2011 14:43

Cora is lovely. Best of the 3.

FireAndRain · 08/03/2011 14:36

He said he'll think about Constance (which means no!) and I think we are leaning towards Cora (sorry BarbieLovesKen!!).

Thank you for your input everyone x

Maeve is ok.

I hate the name Cora.

Hedwig3 · 08/03/2011 12:37

I like them all but Cora would be my fovourite.

Misfitless · 07/03/2011 21:15

COnstance - Connie for short but not on Birth Certificate imo

Beasknees · 07/03/2011 21:12

Like them all.

Connie i toyed with for ds1 when i thought he might be a girl ( not for lack of evidence) but i defeinetly didn't want a Constance

FireAndRain · 07/03/2011 21:11

Thanks all :)
Hulababy, I thought that about Connie, but didn't know any long names for it...... until PepsiPopcorn suggested Constance! I'll put that to my partner.
