Is it utter madness to be liking the name Pollyanna?

Pollyanna is fab, much better than Polly or Anna on their own.

lovenest · 08/03/2011 13:11

I had a dolly called Pollyanna when I was little! I do quite like the name though. Also Annie, Anais or just Polly is lovely with Anna as a middle name maybe?

TeacupTempest · 08/03/2011 11:10

Tis a bit twee I agree. I do think looking at the world with enthusiasm is a good thing but I can also see how that could grate. I have the film here, must be why I am thinking of the name, so I will watch it. I am sure that will either make me love the name more or having me running for the hills to escape it's tweeness!

I actually think it's quite sweet - and love both the names Polly and Anna individually.

It depends on your surname I suppose - wouldn't go with ours at all, and I'm utterly sure my dh would denouce it as being too posh/twee (twee seems to be his favourite reason for rejecting names just now!)

nooka · 08/03/2011 06:14

I agree with Underachieving, for me too it's a way of looking at the world, not a name. Although the phrase does come from the book about a Pollyanna. I guess it depends on whether you think approaching the world with unbridled enthusiasm is a good or a bad thing.

Janoschi · 07/03/2011 23:39

My Great Grandmother was Pollyanna. I Like it.

muminthemiddle · 07/03/2011 23:13

I quite like it and you can always call her Polly for short or Anna.

Underachieving · 07/03/2011 23:09

I don't like it, I tend to think of it as the phrase to live in a Pollyanna world meaning to have an extreme case of rose tinted spectacles and be unrealistic about the world because of it.

kitkat1000 · 07/03/2011 20:53

i love it! Polly on its own is nice - Anna, far too common and a bit boring i think. But then i also love the name Pearl but couldn't use it because of my surname.

Onion1968 · 07/03/2011 20:40

where I live there is a famous artist called Pollyanna Pickering. Not sure I like the name but it's served her well!

asdx2 · 07/03/2011 18:21

Ds has a friend Pollyann in her mid twenties and she's lovely.

TerrorFirmer · 07/03/2011 18:16

It's a doll's name.

sparkle12mar08 · 07/03/2011 18:15

Yes, you've gone mad...

TeacupTempest · 07/03/2011 16:50

Its growing on me. Eeek!

I quite like it, and it can be shortened in many ways so gives the kids lots of options. Better than penelope.

PepsiPopcorn · 07/03/2011 14:03

Annabel, Emma, Penelope/Penny, Julianna?

ShowOfHands · 07/03/2011 12:48

My friend has a Pollyanna. She's very nearly 1. Lovely girl and her name really suits her actually.

Use it if you like it.

MmeLindt · 07/03/2011 12:47

Yes.

Don't use it. You really cannot expect a child to live up to that name.

Horsey? Never thought of it like that. It does make me think of Hayley Mills though.

I keep finding myself repeating it in my head......

I like Anna but seems to be getting more popular. Don't particularly like Hannah. Polly I quite like. Can't have Molly as that is my Grandma's name.

Hmmmmm

Agree with everlong. How about Anna, Polly, Molly, Hannah?
