Arr, agreed on the name Catherine

but dh has said he will insist on the nn Kate/Katie. I hate both of those (neg connotations from people I've known). Would it be ridic to christen her Catherine, and only have her father (and her father's family obv) call her Kate/ie. Knowing my luck, that would stick and I don't like it.

We can't agree on any other names

If you hate the name Kate/Katie, you cannot let your dh call her that, don't let him push you into choosing a name you hate.

The Catherine i know, is called Kat

This was what happened with my niece - she was christened Catherine, became Katie as a little girl and now calls herself Kate as a grown up.

Tbh we named dd2 with the proviso that she wouldn't be a particular nickname because I don't like it but as soon as she could talk she insisted that she was this nn. So whatever you plan may not work out anyway!
