why not go the whole hog and give the poor soul the middle name of Terrier or Hound or Glove.

CheerfulYank · 07/03/2011 16:06

I like Fox, but then I think Mulder is the business. :) He'd have to be ultra-cool to pull it off in RL. Maybe as a nn, as has been suggested?

Littlefish · 07/03/2011 16:02

Madam - I think I would have to have asked (and then run away!) Smile

I knew a beautiful girl in the states called Raven she had pitch black hair, the name really suited her.

"Why would it be weird to name him fox if he was a red head?"

Because foxes are ginger.

QueeferSutherland · 07/03/2011 12:59

Yes!

I know a Bear. I love Bear/Tiger/Fox.

Rex is ace too. I have earmarked that for next DS (if we have another contraception failure.)

Littlefish · 07/03/2011 12:51

I wouldn't call a child "Raven" either.

greenzebra · 07/03/2011 12:40

never knew it would get this type of reaction. Interesting.

Why would it be weird to name him fox if he was a red head?

Wouldnt it be weird if you named a kid Raven but the kid didnt have black hair?

The survivalist one is "Bear" Grylls, and it is a nn for Rupert.

I know two Tigers in RL.

poppydaisy · 07/03/2011 12:32

Isn't Jamie Oliver's son a Bear?

I know a little Tiger and a Wolf (short for Wolfgang) but have not met a Fox before.

hogsback · 07/03/2011 11:41

BaggedandTagged: or if they have mange, eat voles and end up being run over.

How about Aardvark?

TeacupTempest · 07/03/2011 11:35

"knew" not "new" TSK!

IngridBergmann · 07/03/2011 11:33

No no no NOOOOOOOOO!

Sorry. ahem.

Wolf is great though. Foxes have too many negative connotations. I don't know why wolves are better though considering they eat babies and all.

I heard a chorus of wolves 'singing' the other day and it was the most beautiful sound ever.

TeacupTempest · 07/03/2011 11:20

I new a child called Fox. He was American. His father worked with coyotes, foxes and wolves so it was kind of appropriate. I like it but I don't think I would be brave enough to use it.

BaggedandTagged · 07/03/2011 10:49

Fine if you can guarantee that he's going to be lithe, fine featured, too cool for school and ideally not red haired.

If you can't guarantee these things, do not call him Fox. It's too cruel.

mamatomany · 07/03/2011 10:46

We must know each other littlemissw - i can't believe there's 2 of them Wink

mamatomany · 07/03/2011 10:45

There's a boy in my daughters class called Fox because the parents met in a mulder and scully chat room

littlemissw · 07/03/2011 10:44

There's a little boy called Fox in my daughters class. I think there are far worse names you could call your little boy.

Littlefish · 07/03/2011 10:42

No.

Why not go the whole hog and call him Platypus.

ZZZenAgain · 07/03/2011 10:42

never met anyone called Tiger, Bear or Fox. Not so convinced they are widespread names.

I wouldn't do it but tbh these days you can give your dc any kind of name - adjective, made-up, spelt creatively - anything you like so if you really want to call him Fox. you can but I don't know really why you like it so much

RamblingRosa · 07/03/2011 10:40

I know a Tiger. No Bears though :) Isn't there a bloke on TV called Bear something. An outdoorsy/survival type person? Seems like a fitting name.

MamaLazarou · 07/03/2011 10:28

Tiger and bear relatively common? Relative to what?!!
