Here's the shortlist of baby names I'm considering that I generated with Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder. Let me know what you think.(be as honest as you like!!)

I have a Niamh and would be wary of pronounciation problems as it the child who has to explain most of the time Smile

I am unsure of how to pronounce them, but at a glance I like Bryn and Eilidh - I liek the way they look. How do I say them?

Ruaraidh and Eilidh but they're both buggers to spell.

Hmmm, its difficult isn't it? I am wary of that having a VERY welsh name myself, it was never a problem growing up in wales but I've spent my whole adult life spelling / repeating my name and most people still can't pronounce it!! DP is Scottish and I'm Welsh, we live in the highlands so would like a Celtic name with a welsh / scottish conection.
ps. Love Niamh also, would be on my shortlist if a friend wasn't a mummy to one already :)

hello mixed mama looking for last minute inspiration here!! Bryn is pronounced 'brin' and Eilidh like Hayley without the 'H' if that makes sense...don't want to end up naming my child something too 'wacky' but want something celtic...to be honest the Skye, Lark and Sionnach are spur of the moment (hormone related?) and DP would probably never consider these!!
And yes hadtonamechange I'm prob gonna give my child spelling issues early on....although they're both fairly common names here.

Love hamish and Eilidh. Not sure about Skye,round here not very classy- sorry if that sounds snobby. Lark sounds girly to me. Eilidh rhymes with ceilidh which could make for good limericks...

My brother is called Ruairi and my dad is Rory...once people master Ruairi, that's what they're both called!
When he was little, he did once demand to be called Steve for awhile!
But I think it's a lovely name

Hamish or Bryn for a boy, Eilidh or Skye for a girl :) They would sound nice combined if you hadn't already thought of middle names - Hamish Bryn or Eilidh Skye.

Angus - OK although I do think "Aberdeen Angus"
Bryn - like :)
Hamish - like :)
Lark - like but thought it was a girls' name
Ruaraidh - not keen

Branwen - prefer Bronwen as Branwen reminds me of bran cereals
Eilidh - like, very pretty :)
Maeve - OK
Sionnach - hard to pronounce/spell
Skye - like :)

If you live in the Highlands then the spelling/pronunciation should be no problem for any of these. They are all lovely names except Lark which is ridiculous. My personal faves are Ruaridh and Eilidh.

How do you pronounce Sionnach? If I was reading it out in a waiting room, I'd be saying "see-ON-ark", which is probably nowhere close.

Thanks for all your input, and ok, the Lark was a silly moment Blush, have narrowed it down to Hamish / Ruaraidh or Eilidh / Maeve now I think we'll see what suits babi when he / she makes an appearance...hopefully fairly soon! Either that or end up picking an entirely different name!
I had thought of Mairi as well but already know a few.
And DP's fave name at the moment is Megan - yes a really lovely name but our dog is called.....Meg!!! That's easy he says, we'll just re-name the dog Peg, hmmm Hmm

highlandbird DS is called Angus and so is our cat. We haven't even bothered to try to rename him!

I prefer Hamish directly because of the spelling issue. The Highlands are a small place population wise, the English speaking world is far larger and in the rest of it Ruaraidh could prove a bit tricky for him. Eilidh and Maeve are equally easy as they're each only one letter from phonetic for the rest of us.

Struan, euan, darragh (tho more irish), lachlan

Caitlin, mirren, mairead, ailish

From your list I like:

Ruaraidh (although prefer the modern Gaelic Ruiairi) and Maeve.

Oooh, thanks for your suggestions theunmentioned we like Caitlin and Lachlan now as well....funny, I'd never heard the name Mirren until recently but a friend of mine had a wee Mirren in December, a very pretty name I think :)

My only reservation with Hamish, will end up being shortened to 'Hammie' surely Hmm

not a fan of any of the boys' names tbh but i simply adore the name maeve. i think it is such a pretty name. would have considered it for dd but it is dh's cousin's name!

if you're looking for a celtic name, how about eibhlinn, pronounced like evelyn (that's ev-lin, as opposed to the hideous pronunciation eev-lin!)
