Would Gabriel be teased?

DH and I love the name Gabriel for a boy but worry he would be teased when he got older e.g name shortened to Gay instead of Gabe (I'm thinking Meet the Fockers with Greg aka Gaylord). Does anyone have any experience of Gabriels? Would it be better as a middle name as I really like Theodore Gabriel too x

I know two Gabriels in two different rough-ish inner-city primaries. Both GAbriels are tough as you like, but not in a nasty way.

I don't think kids perceive it as a wet or wussy or 'please pick on me' name.

Go for it.

i would have thought that gabby would be the nn. difficult isn't it?

spottyock · 27/02/2011 20:29

There have been 2 Gabriels at my school. One is Gabe and the other was not shortened.

I think it's a lovely name. Let's face it, children could probably find an unkind nickname or connotations for most names.

I love Gabriel too. Am hoping Gabe as a nn won't get any future son of mine beaten up in the playground!

I love Theo. I know loads of people love Gabriel, but I can't get my head around it. Sounds very femanine to me. Sorry!
