Dh likes Susan, we have whittled down our long girls list to 10 or 12 now, but this is his favourite, and the only one he has suggested himself.

So what do we think of Susan? Definately not Susannah, just Susan.

tummytickler I really think it might be a good idea to mention you're DS's names. It does have quite a bearing IMHO.

TBH, whatever people think of Susan it really is quite a comedy combo with your DS's names. A bit like having Cassius, Aurora and Bob or Elizabeth, Victoria and Kevin.

A very good reason for choosing Susan is that nobody will find it difficult to pronounce, nor to spell. There are some truly weird names out there now.l

In Mansfield Park, Fanny's younger sister was Susan. Must be 1810 (wild guess).

I know someone whos middle name was Susan born around 1915 so it's an old name and I suspect it dates back much further. Very popular re my generation 1960's but totally out of fashion now. It will probably make a comeback but now isn't the time.

Susie is sweet, you could officially call her Susan but have her be known as Susie and that would be fine. But Susan just makes me think of a middle-aged person. I do know a Susan who's about 30 and incredibly cool, but even then it doesn't quite fit her.

I don't think there's anything wrong with Susan as a name, it's just that it sounds dated to me - probably because everybody I know called Susan is in their 40's or 50's.

Silly really though, because I think Amelia, for example, is a lovely name, but I know people in their 80's with that name.

Susan isn't just a 1950s/1960s name like Karen and Tracy, it goes back further than that.

There was a play called "Black Ey'd Susan" in Victorian times.

I'm very pleasant! And always use the full name, I hate Sue, Susie etc ....

I'm 40. There were 4 in my year at high school. Not as many as Julie and Debbie and Lorraine but it was popular then.

That's cos its a coooool name!

It was very popular indeed in the fifties and sixties, so maybe it'll make a comeback soon. It'll be fairly unusual right now though, as a baby's name, that is.

I think that is most improbable! Those are all classic feminine endings that have stood the test of time, again and again.

yy Susie is sweet and could work with the other names. Susan really isn't pleasant.
