Worst spelling of perfectly ordinary names? Elyviya anyone?

I have met a Danyal, Daniol, Naiphthan, Caytie and an Alivia. Why do people consign their children to a life time of 'no, that's Daniel spelt...'? Any equally terrible ones out there?

I once saw a souixzannne (susan). She was an adult and I suspect she had changed the spelling herself to make it more 'interesting'. She wore a lot of purple velvet, pentangles and wrote to men on death row.

My son has a much hated name on MN. It is misspelt. His birth mother didnt know how to spell it so she made it up. It could be worse Hmm

I had a boy in my class (when I was a ta) called Leroy. I happen to really like this name, I think its a classic. His mum used to go demented because she insisted it was pronounced La-Roy or L'roy. How the hell she thought people were supposed to know that is beyond me (it was spelt Leroy). She gave up in the end. I suspect she thought it up years after he was born but when it didnt catch on she forgot about it.

I know someone with a Malakia, pronounced Malakai. How on earth can 'kia' be pronounced as 'kai'??

Worst one I've heard is Shampane. Not sure if it was deliberate or her mother thought that's how you spelt it, either way not good!

I called out the name as "La" and her mother corrected me: "no it's Ladasha, you need to pronounce the -"

I also have a Phoebe. Even family members spell her name wrongly and it drives me mad. Feebee is terrible though.

desi'ree (sic) is a legit name. i have a dutch friend with this name. its pronounced 'dez - ray'.

Humphrey It is Tyler.
I suppose when you pronounce it like Thailand.
But when ever I look at it, it looks more like Taylor or even sailor with a lisp Smile

I worked with an Ashliegh once. I kept getting into trouble with her Mum for spelling her name wrong (i.e correctly).

youmakeme If its your sil with Jorge then prob a diff person as his mother is not married. Bit scary that they both had same reasons for using Jorge instead of George thoughConfused.

You can bet your bottom dollar the people naming these kids have very easy-to-spell/pronounce names and have no experience of the difficulties their kids will encounter [bitter emoticon].

I have heard of an Iyzik.. as in Issac. Which is not only spelt incorrectly but is spelt phoneticaly around the local accent.

I knew a Jaszon once which I thought was pretty odd. A friends of mine has a grandson called Max spelt Makks [wishtherewasarolleyessmiley].

The Dundee registrar is pretty good for these sorts of stupid variations link. Emoverere anyone?

MelinaM I had to fight back the giggles (as did everyone else in room) when we were having a discusion on what/where/why ect was the reason for our dcs names, and poor Sebasjuns mum told her reason. I think i may have wet my pants when one of the other mums piped up her HUGE mistake!!

foxytocin is Jorge prn as privtegodfrey says (hor-hay)? As this little Jorge is prn George. I dont think his mum even knows it is spanish as she deffinately thinks she made it up!! I remember her making a point of saying she loved the name George but dislikes the letter 'G' and thought Jeorge looked silly so decided to drop the 'E'Hmm!
