Worst spelling of perfectly ordinary names? Elyviya anyone?

I have met a Danyal, Daniol, Naiphthan, Caytie and an Alivia. Why do people consign their children to a life time of 'no, that's Daniel spelt...'? Any equally terrible ones out there?

This must surely be the name of a child born and registered abroad and is a name acceptable in that country (not a mis-spelling) but doesn't translate so well in the UK Smile.
I'm a Registrar and have found this thread amusing but can tell you that there is no way this name would be allowed in England and Wales. In fact, I would find it hard to believe that any parent would attempt to register their child in this name.

just to say, Ayman is an arabic name meaning blessed/lucky and that is the correct spelling. nothing to do with Eamon although its pronounced the same.

Nike is a real name though, she was the ancient goddess of strength, speed and victory (I suppose that's why they called the sports brand after her).

I'm a supply teacher so get to see quite a few good ones- the best yet has to be 'Joan'- the child corrected me when I pronounced it the obvious way and told me it was 'Joanne'!

Macoi (pronounced "McCoy" like the crisps!) for a boy. Is that even a real name?!? Had to laugh when the mother was complaining that it was pronounced incorrectly as "Mass-wah" over the intercom at the doctor's!!!

When i was pregnant with my DS1 i was scared his name would be common so wanted a different spelling so chose the French spelling and a different spelling of his middle name. But decided last minute not to be a chav and think about it. So instead of

Jak - Rylee

We gave him

Jack Riley Grin

there is a local lad called "Nike" wondering if there is a sibling called ReebokGrin

What upsets me more is children with foreign names who parents feel they have to anglicise i.e. Kacper being taught to spell it CASPER because mum thought they wouldn't let him spell it the polish way at school. Sad
