Worst spelling of perfectly ordinary names? Elyviya anyone?

I have met a Danyal, Daniol, Naiphthan, Caytie and an Alivia. Why do people consign their children to a life time of 'no, that's Daniel spelt...'? Any equally terrible ones out there?

I know a Jorja, a BJ and a Wolfe, all mentioned on this thread - would be quite funny if they were the same ones.

Someone way back mentioned there being a baby Spike on the ward when they were having their baby - there was a Spike on the ward when my DD was born!

Am a bit dismayed at the comments about very lovely Scots/Welsh/Irish names, though. I'm Scottish but I have a very un-Scottish name. But I have plenty of friends with very Scottish names, and a DD with a name that has Celtic roots. It's part of the heritage of our country; I find people saying 'what's wrong with plain old...blah blah blah' a bit unpalatable.

I'm a Karen, my Mum insisted it was pronounced care-en, I'd given up correcting people by the age of 6 and I'm now a bog standard pronunciation. To be fair to my Mum, I was named after someone, so it wasn't a figment of her imagination.

I also went to school (30yrs ago) with a Sian, pronounced cyan - wonder if we all know the same one....

Met a woman with a DS called 'Tomaz' - she said that it was the 'normal' way of spelling 'Thomas'....

There was a Lowleetah (Lolita) at DD's pre-school
Aswell as DD's friend, Graycee (Gracie)

In my DD's class there is a girl called Ambah - I commented on the lovely spelling, she said that I should have put an 'h' on the end of my DD's name (Isla) just to make it a bit different - 'Islah' - really?

Know of a 'Tiara' pronounced 'Tara'
And a Sunnee.. (Sonny)

Also, my other DD is a Jasmine, and we get all the Jazmin/Jazmyyn/Jassmin/Jaszmyn etc etc..

There was an Ailee in the Chalet School....not that bad! Never knew there was another version before. Eilidh looks v. pretty written down.

Love these sorts of threads...and a bit Grin that people get all het up about the "right spellings"...it's a name, you can have your pick, not a word in the dictionary!

this Kamran was not Asian. He was white, English and his mother was a teenaged Pram Hun shopping in Poundland. (yes, I was in Poundland.)

I couldn't help noticing Chelsee on Strictly - great dancing but "Chelsea" seems so much more natural ( But then we are Chelsea supporters here Xmas Grin )

Rian is the irish for Ryan,its missing the fado though.Pronounced Reen.

Am a youth worker and have worked with lots of young people who have an 'alternative' spelling or just plain odd - my favourites are Dayzee (Daisy) Brittnee (Britney) and a Summertreasure...
