Struggling to think of a name that's going to suit my little princess....she is half indian half white. Daddy is quite fair but then i am quite tanned as have spanish in my family! So she's going to be a mix!
Wanted an indian name that wasnt too traditional but then wasn't too british? We kinda have our hearts set on Savannah-Rose as Rose is my middle name but my other halfs brother is called Savan and if we were to ever shorten her name it would be Sav - the same as his!!!

HELP!!

I love Kajul (apple of the eye).

My dd is half asian and I am expecting another baby this week. She also has 4 cousins who are mixed race and there is such a variation in their colourings. DD has olive skin and dark brown hair, 3 of them have black hair and very pale skin and the other has black hair and is dark skinned and looks the most 'asian' of them all. All have brown eyes.

Good luck with the new addition!

I absolutely love JAYA not least for the associations to an old school Indian actress married to my favourite indian actor.

For the record in terms of how DD might look.

My husband is from Bangladesh originally although is fiarly light skinned and my dad is Turkish and mum is English. My dad and husband have a very similar skin tone etc so we assumed our children would be quite tanned and much closer to their colour and obviously have dark hair.

DS1 was born with blond hair that has become light brown over time and is sort of yellow (a nice shade of yellow Grin).

DS2 is paler, much whiter but with very dark eyes (in Turkey they refer to his eyes as olives) with very very dark brown hair. People assume he is the darker skinned because of his hair colour but he is definitely lighter.

Neither look Bengali at all, they look white without looking English and in Turkey everyone accepts they look Turkish but in the UK they could pass for any number of a million things.

Currently expecting DS3 next week, so intrigued to see what he looks like.

Again though LOVE the name Jaya.

Love Indie and also Jasmine

loobylu3 · 22/02/2011 19:54

Jasmine is prettier than Savannah imo.
I prefer some the variants personally- Jessamy and Jessamine which both mean Jasmine but sound better to me and are more unusual.
Good luck deciding!

Firawla · 22/02/2011 19:38

savannahrose both my ds have dark brown hair too not black, and are half asian half white. when they were born the younger one looked much more asian than the older one, but has gone lighter now and both of them look much darker/more asian in the summer normally and in winter quite fair. im sure your dd will be beautiful
i like jasmine more than savannah, what about jasmine rose

loobylu3 · 22/02/2011 18:16

Thanks Savannah! :) We are in the South of England-sorry to be a bit vague!
They all have brown hair- the older two have dark brown and DD2's is probably medium brown. Lots of Indians actually have v dark brown hair so I don't think it is likely that your DD will have black hair. I'm sure she will be beautiful!

growing3rdbump · 22/02/2011 17:09

Savannah, my children are mixed white and afro-Caribbean and DD's hair is dark brown and DS's hair is quite a bit lighter (he was very light at birth)! I have friends whose children are mixed Asian and white and they all have dark brown hair. Really gorgeous with lovely big dark eyes too.

beanlet · 22/02/2011 13:42

Anjali I love, and Meera. Maya is just beautiful. Sophia/Sufiya would be one of our choices except it doesn't go with our surname. Naina is also very elegant.

SavannahRose · 22/02/2011 13:38

Loobylu3, saw your pics. Your children are stunning! I can't wait to see my little girl now!! Where abouts are you from?
I can't get over your youngest girl....her hair looks brown? I always thought back hair woud dominate over brown?x

FooffyShmoofffer · 22/02/2011 13:32

Our frends have chosen Jasmine as their possible DD name for Baby half indian/half white.

loobylu3 · 22/02/2011 12:55

SavannahRose- I have added you to my 'friends' so you can have a peek at the pics if you like!

Mum2Pea · 22/02/2011 10:58

I am indian and OH is White. So we had decided that since our children would have an English surname, we wanted indian first names to reflect their mixed heritage.

We have really struggled too ........ but names that we like/liked are
Roshni
Diya
Ankita
Maya
Anjali (can be shortened to Anju?)
Payal
Aarti
Saanvi

JiltedJohnsJulie · 21/02/2011 18:08

We have a friend who is called Tessima, which I think is beautiful. She usually gets called Tess which is lovely too.

Wafflenose · 21/02/2011 18:08

I know a few Indian and half Indian children so thought I would share the girls' names:

Anina, Ella, Rohini (LOVE this one!)

SavannahRose · 21/02/2011 18:04

My Dd was going to be called Rani. She is 1/4 East Indian, 1/4 West Indian and half white English. We thought she'd be a lovely coffee colour, but came out with very white skin and blue eyes. As her hair grew, she was blond. She has darker hair now, but still very white skinned and blue eyes. Rani would not suit her at all. Pictures on profile.

You maybe need to have some completely different names at the ready.
