I have a feeling I know how this will go down, but just to check!

If it's not Ivy, it's going to be Kate, but I just can't help feeling that although Kate is liked, it's just a bit dull..

Thanks all Smile

THanks all! (back to my usual name here)

Interesting comments all Smile

I want to like Ivy...but something stops me, I think perhaps it sounds a little harsh. I do know a two year old little girl called Ivy and I think it suits her but don't think I would use it.

MissHavishamsDress · 24/02/2011 22:07

Much prefer Ivy to Kate. Much more special - I love greenery!

Beamur · 24/02/2011 22:04

Don't like either...but out of the two, Kate by a mile.

Maud2011 · 24/02/2011 22:02

Not really keen... now maybe the zeitgeist will prove me quite wrong and Ivy will become the new Lily/Ruby, but to my mind it seems old ladyish in a slightly boring way.

How about Catherine instead of Kate? Kate's a nice enough shortening but if her official name is Catherine it will give her more choice when she decides which name she personally wants to be known by. Maybe she'll like Kate and stick with it, but she may prefer Cat or Catherine or Cathy?

I know what I'm talking about. I don't want to write my full name here but it's a rather grand and pretty one. I always used to be called Jo, which is simply one of its shortenings. I'm very glad I wasn't christened simply Jo because there are other shortenings I prefer by far - and I also prefer my original christened name to Jo. I appreciate Kate is more girly than Jo, but I think the gist of what I'm staying still holds water.

Love Ivy - DD's middle name after my mum.

Second choice is my name, so I'd never consider it for anyone else!

growing3rdbump · 23/02/2011 12:37

No, never considered Juliet.... but I'm def also on a rocky name road!

paulbrom · 23/02/2011 11:39

I wouldn't have liked Ivy (IVY TILSLEY OMG) but now I know a toddler one, she's gorgeous and it suits her. I can see that it'll grow with her too, not as girly as some of the "flower" names but still pretty.

Ivy Kate is really nice as well, go for it :)

specialsmasher · 23/02/2011 10:52

Weren't you considering Juliet when I was as well, growing3rdbump? We're travelling the same rocky road if I'm right about that... Smile

Kate without a doubt.

growing3rdbump · 22/02/2011 21:00

That's good to know CountryMama - Ivy is the only name DH and I can agree on, so it's likely our baby will be an Ivy too!
I also fear the Royal wedding may increase popularity of Katherine/Kate...

CountryMama · 22/02/2011 19:30

Kate

CountryMama · 22/02/2011 19:30

Also I love late but feel that a royal wedding could cheapen it this year.

CountryMama · 22/02/2011 19:25

My dd is 2 and called ivy. I still love it. I have been given lots of compliments and "why didn't I think of that" comments. It suits her as she likes to climb. We were convinced of it after watching the film 'the village' the main character is called ivy and she's brilliant. I hope this helps. X

specialsmasher · 21/02/2011 19:05

No need to apologise, everlong! That's why I asked - it does seem to be divisive.

Leaning towards Kate - I know it would make dh very happy.

Thanks, growing3rdbump! Nice to know I'm not alone in stressing! Smile

Specialsmasher - I do like being Kate and also having Katherine as my 'real name'. I totally understand about the sleepless nights - my DH just doesn't understand why I feel so stressed about the name, but it's on my mind constantly. I think Ivy Kate would be a lovely choice btw!

ivykaty44 · 21/02/2011 15:38

Guess what - both are fab names Wink

JumpingForJuly · 21/02/2011 15:37

Happy to see this thread, we found out last Thurs we're expecting a girl and have decided she'll be called Ivy, absolutely love the name and finally DP agrees with me on a name Smile

pinkgirlythoughts · 21/02/2011 11:10

It's lovely, but I think it's going to become very popular very quickly. I've known three born since January.
Kate is probably more classic-popular, whereas Ivy is trendy-popular. It depends which style you'd rather go for.

MazzzaG · 20/02/2011 22:12

Really like ivy and it's unusual which I think is even better. Although kate is nice too.

Hatterbox · 20/02/2011 21:53

Ivy is stunning.

Kate is a bit dull in comparison.

ledkr · 20/02/2011 21:37

Ivy was our name choice for dd 3wks old. When she was born she didnt look like an Ivy so she is Delilah which is very different.

Alishanty · 20/02/2011 21:24

I love Ivy, think it has a nice ring to it, not too common but not too wacky either. I suggested it for dd but unfortunately dp wasn't sold. How about Ivy Kate?
