What do these girls names say to you?

So, DH and I just found out that we are having a girl after two boys. I'm in total shock as I though this was another boy. At least it means I can cross out half the huge name list. :)

So I'm wondering what these names say to you.

Elliot
Darcy
Scarlett
Madison
Phoebe
Aurora
Matilda
Elise
Xanthe
Trinity

Some are Dh's choice, some are mine. I would also like to know of anything that is massively popular. We live quite rurally so don't know loads of children.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Elliot - boys name
Darcy - very common around here
Scarlett - ok
Madison - see Darcy.
Phoebe - very popular
Aurora - ok
Matilda - love
Elise - like
Xanthe - like
Trinity - don't like

pointydog · 18/02/2011 17:42

They're really not that different though, up.

upahill · 18/02/2011 17:37

All of them say that the parents were trying too hard to find a name that was different

Eglu · 18/02/2011 17:36

THank you everyone. I can't believe how many of the names we like are quite popular. I don't like to have names that are going to be 2 or 3 in the class.

Might go back to the baby book and see what else pops up. The ones most people like on here are the ones DH doesn't like. This is so hard. We had no trouble naming the boys.

Scarlett - ok-ish
Madison - not keen
Phoebe - like it, cute
Aurora - lovely
Matilda - like it, but getting quite popular (depends if that bothers you?)
Elise - lovely

Horton · 18/02/2011 14:47

Elliot - boys name

Darcy - Mr Darcy. Or Darcey Bussell.

Scarlett - Gone with the Wind (don't really like it).

Madison - surname

Phoebe - love this, sounds kind of feisty and pretty at the same time

Aurora - frilly and Disney

Matilda - love it

Elise - Fur Elise. This could be good or bad, depending on how many hours of piano practice you were forced to do as a child. It was my fantasy name as a child when I didn't like being called my own name. I quite like it still.

Xanthe - lovely

Trinity - erm, no. Matrix.

Tabitha - love it

MelinaM · 18/02/2011 14:39

Elliot - Boys name, not for a little lady.
Darcy - Love this, but gaining in popularity
Scarlett - Lovely name, but also becoming more popular
Madison - Don't like at all, quite American sounding.
Phoebe - Nice, but again quite popular
Aurora - Nice name, but a tad 'disney princess'.
Matilda - Very similar to Madison, don't like.
Elise - I knew a hell of a lot of these at school, don't like.
Xanthe - Lovely.
Trinity - A bit trendy, don't like.

I'd go with ScarlettSmile x

AnnOnimous · 18/02/2011 14:35

You pronounce it Zan thay

LucretiaInShadows · 17/02/2011 22:28

Elliot - I've only ever known it as a boy's name

Darcy - not my taste, but never done Darcey Bussell any harm.

Scarlett - nice on a very beautiful, confident young woman, doesn't feel right to me for a child or old person, and definitely wouldn't work on a shy, dumpy, geeky kid

Madison - pretty, but a bit common, sorry.

Phoebe - lovely. Popular, if that bothers you either way.

Aurora - beautiful. IMO not too out-there, but I see that others don't agree

Matilda - I had a cat called Matilda, so it doesn't feel right for a person

Elise - pretty, but I prefer Elisa

Xanthe - pretentious. That's because I don't know how to say it, so it makes me feel thick, though.

Trinity - Matrix.

Tabitha - definitely cat.

NancyDrewHadaClue · 17/02/2011 22:23

I really wanted to call DD Aurora.

Now that she is 6 and we have done the whold disney thing to death I am so glad that we didn't.

Eglu · 17/02/2011 20:57

Just realised I haven't put Tabitha on the list.

Eglu · 17/02/2011 20:27

I was worried Scarlett may be popular. I seem to hear it quite a bit.
