We love the name, but are worried about it upsetting some friends of ours who have a DD called Clara.
Our plan is to ask if they mind us naming our baby Clara too, especially as their DD is now 8.

Just want to have some other names in the bag in case they are completely against the idea.

We already have a DD called Anna, so have to rule that out.

Lara will just get that Dr Zhivago (sp?) tune. And isn't Karla some (male) Hungarian film director?

That's my name.

Anna and Sage

I just saw Anna and Clair (Very nice)

Actually just go with your heart what a thrill for an 8 year old and it does sound lovely.

Hedwig3 · 17/02/2011 11:15

I think it is very kind of you to think about their feelings but let them know of your decision rather than ask for their permission Smile

TooTiredtoGoogle · 17/02/2011 10:20

justmilkpleasenosugar - that would be very cheeky as you're right, 8 year old would be thrilled Smile

Why didn't you ask your friends daughter instead...in front of the parents. I'm sure the 8yr would be thrilled.

OliveMalay · 17/02/2011 00:29

If you like Clara best then I think you should use it anyway. You could just explain to your friends it's your favourite name, you'll probably be using it and thought you would just tell them in advance.

DP wanted Hannah. I wanted Karina. We got Dylan (i.e. not a girl) so we didn't have to choose between them in the end.

Carla ?

TooTiredtoGoogle · 16/02/2011 20:30

Unfortunately, Lara won't work for us because middle name and surname will start with a L.
Needs to be a name which is easily pronounceable by my Chinese family and DH's French family too Smile

LetLoveRule - you've given me hope that our friends will be okay with our choice of name. How would you approach it?

LOVE Clara by the way. They don't own the name? It's not as though it's FifiTrizibelle or something really unique?

Cora?

LetLoveRule · 16/02/2011 20:16

My dd is 8 - I would have absolutely no problem with a friend's baby sharing her name. She doesn't own it! In fact, I think it would be quite nice.

nancythenaughtyfairy · 16/02/2011 20:10

Clarice

wasabipeanut · 16/02/2011 20:01

I have a Clara. I love it more than I ever did and am so glad we went with it. Our alternatives were Matilda, Emmeline, Kitty and Elizabeth. DS chose Clara as we couldn't decide!

Toomanyponies · 16/02/2011 19:56

How about the gaelic for Claire/Clara?
