So we've had a thread recently about the best surnames, and I was wondering what the worse ones you've come across are.

a kid in my school was called Phil(ip) Mike Hunt...

BarryBarryTaylor · 07/06/2019 20:05

My surname is quite nice sounding but it’s long and rhymes with lots of first names that I happen to really like.
It’s really unusual so I can’t say it, but it ends with the ‘Elle’ sound.

My doctor is called dr d’eath, he pronounces it Dee-ath!

Sessy19 · 06/06/2019 17:19

There are a lot of Kuntz’ in the States 😳

QueenoftheBiscuitTin · 06/06/2019 11:10

I know a Cockburn

schnubbins · 06/06/2019 08:15

Savage
which is common in Ireland

Topseyt · 06/06/2019 03:10

I knew of a German at one of my previous employers with the surname Ficker.

The thing is, Ficker is also German for fucker. So he was Mr. Fucker.

JaneGlorianaVillanueva · 05/06/2019 23:43

I went to school with a girl who had the surname Hooker

sayanythingelse · 05/06/2019 22:54

My surname is one of those mentioned in this thread Grin. I love it though!

I've known people with the surname Dick, Crapper and Cant which are worse in my opinion. I'd struggle to take any of those as my married name.

PissOffPeppa · 05/06/2019 00:49

I knew a Deadman, which I actually think is quite cool.

Someone I know has married a Cumberpatch and changed her name. Somehow that’s worse than Cumberbatch. Makes me think of Cucumber Patch.

Saharasunset · 05/06/2019 00:11

My aunts maiden name was Horsetrough!

AlliKaneErikson · 31/05/2019 07:04

My friend’s Surname is Didcock (she’s absolutely know this is me if she’s on MN!!)

Bouncingbelle · 31/05/2019 02:02

A classmates surname was Trebilcock
Supposedly pronounced Tre-bilcock but we all called her Trebil-cock.
She eventually changed her name.

AlliKaneErikson · 31/05/2019 01:36

One of my lectures at uni had the wonderful name Gloria Topliss.

ToothlessReg · 30/05/2019 23:19

There were 3 girls at my secondary school with the surnames Willey, Dickie and Cox - they were really good friends too!

Then in my class we had a Spittle, a Moorcock and a Mould.

I’ve also worked with a John Thomas!

Veterinari · 30/05/2019 21:37

Crapper

Itsagrandoldteam · 30/05/2019 12:11

My inlaws know someone called Dick Smallie

Antonin · 30/05/2019 12:00

Of course, in the past and in fact for hundreds of years, most of these surnames did not have the connotations we put on on them today. Other nicknames that became surnames were quite rude but the spelling has altered and/or the meaning become obscure. Eg Topliss is a corruption of Tup lass — farmers still use the term tup when they put the ewes out to be mated. Bog wasn’t a toilet but merely a piece of wet land. Mr Crapper’s family were proud of him when he developed the modern flushing loo, never suspecting their surname would become a subject of fun.
Who knows what current inoffensive surnames will be reviled in the future as meanings etc change.

Gran22 · 30/05/2019 07:35

Crapper - there's an estate agent around here with that name.

FenellaMaxwell · 30/05/2019 05:26

I grew up as an expat brat so I’ve encountered some crackers on my travels. My favourite was a teacher I had at school called Mrs Poopenbach.

Tillygetsit · 29/05/2019 23:06

I knew a teacher called Mr. Nobbs. At least the kids didn't have to think of a nickname.

Pinkvoid · 29/05/2019 17:01

Anything with cock in it. Girl I loathed in secondary school married a man with the surname Cockshaft or something ridiculous, made me immaturely snigger.

A girl in school had the surname Pratt which she understandably hated.

TheRedFox · 29/05/2019 16:56

I knew a boy at school who's surname was Peacock.

So far so good but his first name was Drew.

Drew Peacock...

AnotherRubberDuck · 29/05/2019 16:14

I had a teacher at school called Mr Raper. His first initial? I. I Raper. I kid you not.
No one really cared though, he was the best teacher I have ever come across!

Sophronia · 29/05/2019 14:10

I had a teacher called Richard Hardon
