Few days to go this is our final- hopefully - shortlist. Middle names will be Vittoria and Vera after my sister and dh's mother.

Yes I always thought that Etienne was a boy's name, but for some reasons it has been mentioned on here twice by two different people. I am not so keen on it even if it was also a girl's name. I would not give a French name given that we are an english/italian family...

Anna is the best by a mile IMO.

OliveMalay · 19/02/2011 09:45

I like Audrey and Charlotte/Carlotta.

Galdem · 19/02/2011 08:29

Anna is my favourite by a mile: simple, classic, lovely.

Etienne is a very common boy's name in the French West Indies, if that makes any difference to you!

teobaldo · 19/02/2011 07:56

Thanks! i have a better idea now, probably will wait and see what she looks like to take a final decision. DH does not like Anna...

Ottilie and Anna were two names on my short list for DC3, so yes to them.

Audrey is very sophisticated too.

mathanxiety · 17/02/2011 23:53

Anna is really beautiful.

Etienne is a boy's name surely?

mummypontipine · 17/02/2011 21:54

love charlotte
think olympia may leap in popularity in 2012 especially in july, august , and september

teobaldo · 17/02/2011 21:53

Oh yes I love natalie but i have a friend who just called her daughter natalie. Etienne it sounds like a boy's name to me, even if it must be both as someone else suggested it as well

My son came back from nursery today saying he would like to call the baby Anna ! I quite like it actually is a beautiful name (or not) and easy to pronounce in all languages becoming more popular for little girls now in Italy (there are quite a few at nursery here ) but do not know any young one in London...

Opinions if I add Anna to the list ?

Oooh Etienne, as mentioned by someone else, is gorgeous.

mathanxiety · 17/02/2011 20:43

I like Vera and Audrey a lot.

Olimpia I prefer with the Y spelling, but with the Olympics just around the corner I think I would use another name.

I know two little Audreys aged 2 and 7, and another in DS's class, so aged 17. One of my sisters had a friend Audrey in school, so I don't see it as old ladyish, just quite sophisticated, a name a child could carry right through life.

I suggest Natalia as a name that wouldn't cause pronunciation problems in either Italy or the UK, close to Ottilie, but without the funny 'Ott' sound -- and yes, the link to ears.

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/02/2011 20:17

How about Ottilia as a compromise?

Bumperlicious · 17/02/2011 19:16

Love Carlotta

Happymummy2011 · 17/02/2011 19:05

Audrey was my wonderful mother. Such a classy and sophisticated name.

Hedwig3 · 17/02/2011 13:05

I really like Audrey and Ottilie.

bambiandthumper · 17/02/2011 11:53

I love Olympia and Carlotta

teobaldo · 17/02/2011 07:11

Thanks everyone... so difficult to take a decision -like them all possibly my favorite is Ottilie, but dh hates it and in Italy they told me a couple of times that it sounds like the brand of ear drops!

Charlotte/Carlotta are both very popular in England and Italy.

I think most of you confirmed that Oli(y)mpia is a difficult name ( collected more dislike!)

Audrey seems the most popular but has few dislikes as well

While Carlotta/ Charlotte do not have any dislikes - ven if I think the drawback is their popularity ....well at least for me. My name is very nice but was extremely popular when I was at school ( 5of us in the same class) and I did not like that...)

Rhubarbgarden · 16/02/2011 20:33

I have an Audrey so I'm biased, but Carlotta is beautiful too. I wouldn't worry about too many tts, I think Carlotta Vittoria flows quite prettily actually.

BelligerentGhoul · 16/02/2011 18:20

Audrey or Charlotte. Dislike Olympia and really dislike Olimpia, sorry.

mustdash · 16/02/2011 17:22

It's the look on people's faces when I say Audrey. They really aren't thinking "Hepburn" they are thinking old lady with hair net, wild pink lipstick and lavender water. Was there also someone in Coronation Street called Audrey? Anyway, that's why I wouldn't wish it on anyone else. Nothing sinister.

I feel the same about Vera (had a cousin with that). Maybe it is time for them to come round again.... I remember a few years ago Ruby was really unpopular, but now it is quite normal.

I also just like your other choices so much it clouds my opinion! Especially Carlotta and Ottilie

teobaldo · 16/02/2011 16:43

Hi Mary Mungo -good point about too many tt's
we wanted vittoria before vera as in italian the other way around would sound real victory, that is a bit odd if it was combined with Olimpia real victory would sound even more megalomaniac ! Like we want a daughter that will win the Olympic games....

We live in Italy this year but we will go back to London (North East London =Stokie next year)
Is Charlotte more popular in west london I wonder ? Never heard of any Charlottes in playgroups or nursery around where we are - but loads of Lylas, Oscars, Elliots, Matildas, - sorry for the long one !

What is oompa loompas by the way ?

OP posts:
MissClavel · 16/02/2011 15:55

Yes, popularity of Charlotte really does depend on where you live - dd is Charlotte nn Lottie, and she's the only one in her year (she's in reception). There are a few Charlottes sprinkled through the school, but as far as I know, she's the only Lottie. There are loads of Emilys and Poppys around.

alarkaspree · 16/02/2011 15:47

Olimpia makes me think of oompa-loompas. It will always sound odd to English-speakers so if you live in the UK, don't do it.

I like all your other names. Dd had 3 Charlottes with nn Lottie in her nursery class but its popularity will vary depending on where you live.

MaryMungo · 16/02/2011 15:38

Out of curiosity, are you doing Vittoria Vera or _ Vera Vittoria? I like Carlotta, but to immediately follow with Vittoria might be a bit too many t's in a row.
