Advice on boys and girls names. Is the boy name plain silly?

Hello,

Baby due any day now.

We think we will go for Aoife for a girl, but I can't help thinking Vivienne is cool (but not sure as it has Angelina associations now, I was thinking more of Vivien Leigh).

Always, always have trouble with boys names. Quite like:

Hugh
Bran
maybe Lachlan,

and here is the odd one - Severin. Am I just too hormonal?!! Would it be one to regret?

Any help/other suggestions appreciated.

Blakes 7 baddie

I like Hugh best.

Severin and Bran both a bit too Hmm for me.

Wasn't the oily Alan Rickman character in harry Potter called Severus Snape? A bit too close to Severin, maybe?

I think Bran is ill-advised, for many reasons.

I like Aoife very much. On the irish theme, how about Oisin for a boy?

LeChatRouge · 12/02/2011 21:25

I absolutely love Aoife, I would have liked to use this, but alas, no girl babies for me! I would have pronounced it phonetically though, more like a-fee, rather than the ee-fer.

Not sure about your boy choices - I like unusual names, Severin doesn't work for me, I like Louis - how popular is this nowadays? Lots when my eldest was born....

No, I'm not Irish but dp is and all other children have Irish names.

Think I'm too young for this Blakes 7 of which you speak! Wink

Ah! The big baldie baddie?

Greenshadow · 12/02/2011 21:23

Think Severin was female in Blakes 7 - wasn't she the big baddie?

evamummy · 12/02/2011 21:22

I like Aoife (are you Irish?) very much.

I also like Severin for a boy. I know a lovely french one.

Namingdilemmasagain · 12/02/2011 21:22

Severin is from the Velvet Underground song 'Venus in Furs' and I know, it's a bit risque.

Bran means Raven in Irish, but can appreciate its teasing potential here.

Lachlan quit epopula r in scotland these days

pointydog · 12/02/2011 21:20

Severin - was he in Blake's 7?

BikeRunSki · 12/02/2011 21:20

Louis, outright winner from me.

BikeRunSki · 12/02/2011 21:19

Severin - only come across this as a surname so, I suppose it could work like Spencer, Connor, Bradley, Harvey and so on.

Bran though...Hmm

Rather Lachlan though.

Namingdilemmasagain · 12/02/2011 21:19

Oh and Louis?
