when you think of Alice...

slowangels1 · 09/02/2011 16:19

do you think of the song 'who the *£!& is alice' or is that just me?

Alice seems to be the only name DH and I agree on at the minute (and LO due any day soon). Alice in Wonderland connotations I can take; who the bleep is alice I can't Shock

It's the best name Grin

flopsy1974 · 10/02/2011 15:02

Alice is DD's middle name. I think it's a really pretty name. Not too popular atm either. I would go for it.

I think of my lovely niece. And she is the only reason I am not considering it for a dd. I think it's a lovely, classical name.

apples82 · 10/02/2011 10:47

I think Alice is beautifully simple name, elegant.

I don't think of the song at all, and the Alice in Wonderland connection everyone will have, but that's not a bad thing.

Pterosaur · 10/02/2011 10:32

I know two girls called Alice (13 & 8) and they both happen to have good brains and big personalities, so I guess that's what I'd associate with it. I'm pretty sure they've never had any stick because of their name.

To be honest, you could choose any name and it could gather associations, unfortunate or otherwise, at any time - there must have been loads of blokes called Peter Sutcliffe living perfectly happy lives before the mid-80s.

And can you imagine being a Harry Potter born in, say, 1996?

TallulahDoesTheHula · 10/02/2011 10:21

First thing I thought of was the song too, sorry

itssnotfunny · 10/02/2011 10:18

i wanted to call my dd alice but my mother kept going on about how my gran (her mil) was called alice and they used to call her slack alice - she was lovely though.

bt1978 · 10/02/2011 10:16

My name is Alice and I always had Alice in Wonderland jokes from people my grandma's/my mum's age when I was growing up.

That who the f* is Alice song was TERRIBLE for me as I was a teenager when it came out...but as the other posters say it is completely forgotten now, and I haven't had any jokes about my name for years and years.
I had 3 Alice's in my school year of 100 girls, but haven't come across any babies/toddlers called it.
FWIW I like my name!

kittya · 10/02/2011 09:48

It is the first thing I thought of when my cousin used it 11 years ago but, I never said it out loud. Isnt it just those of us that used to go to alot of Irish pubs with live music would think about? Its a generation thing.

Alice is a lovely name, I adore it. The two older Alices I know are both really funky and arty and it suit them. You do here it now and then but my cousins Alice is the only one in her school, we only ever hear it if we are on days out and other Alice's are been called. Its not that popular. Use it if you like it! Smile

BendyBob · 10/02/2011 09:48

Dd has known quite a few Alice's over the years (it seems v popular name). I must admit there have been a few occasions when who the ! is Alice has been mentioned, but usually by dh, and I kick him.

Acanthus · 10/02/2011 09:43

I thought WTF is Alice too!

anonnyme · 10/02/2011 09:41

Was the 1st thing I thought of as well Wink
Probably more a reflection on me than the name though. Blush

Hedwig3 · 10/02/2011 09:28

Yes, and it is such a shame! Angry

Oh no - Alice the camel - I had completely forgotten about that Shock - she'll have children bum butting her (that sounds quite dirty doesn't it....you know what I mean Grin ) and singing it at her Confused

Glad everyone seems to like the name alice though :)

I did immediately think of the song but I think thats more a sad reflection on me than your choice of name :)

I think it's a lovely name as well btw.

LawrieMarlow · 10/02/2011 08:27

I think of my DD :)

Also think of DH's granny who she's named after.

And my friend, another Alice.

It is a great name. Use it :)

pirateparty · 10/02/2011 08:23

Never thought of it until you mentioned it. It's a gorgeous name.

smellyeli · 10/02/2011 08:18

I have an Alice. She is the only one at nursery/school as far as I know. She is sort of named after my Gran, who was christened Alice in the 1920's - so obviously trendy then too Smile. I think it's a fairly timeless name. It suits her (obvs) and she is gorgeous and cheeky (and doesn't sleep much, but I think that's not so much to do with her name)

FakePlasticTrees · 10/02/2011 08:18

Don't think of that - more likely to think of the song "Alice the camel has 5 humps".

NadiaWadia · 10/02/2011 08:14

BTW, I know an Alice and she doesn't have any problems with people making the association.

NadiaWadia · 10/02/2011 08:11

It's a stupid song that is already almost forgotten, so don't worry.
Alice is beautiful!

slowangels1 · 10/02/2011 07:55

Is there an alice in twilight then . Well.....it's a teen movie so maybe by the time the teens have children something else will be a new trend film etc with different names .

Atomant · 10/02/2011 02:41

It's a lovely name & doesn't instantly make me think of the song.
