Pg with number two in Spain and wanting a name that works in Spanish and English.

Current fave Isabel, followed by Sofia and Elena which I'm much less keen on.

I have a Sofia (not in Spain, unfortunately Grin. Am pregnant with dc3, not sure if its a boy or girl but Elena was a firm favourite until a few weeks ago!!! I like Sofia, Isabel, then Elena.

I love all three names. We have Elena on a shortlist for our girl. We also live abroad.

I think it depends on your surname, as Sofia is also a fave of mine but it wouldn't go with our surname.

I think Isabel is lovely (has been very popular in UK, but I haven't met any baby ones for a year or so, so suspect it's on the wane).

Sofia is nice, but it could be pronounced Soff-eeya, Soff-eye-a or Soh-feeya, Soh-fi-ya. Can you live with regular explanations/corrections? Ditto El-ay-na, El-eh-na.

AllieW · 09/02/2011 15:50

Elena (pn El-ay-na) is my favourite.

Sofia is lovely. Also like Isabel.

Sofia goes rather well with Nicolas! Beautiful name! x

BelligerentGhoul · 10/02/2011 20:11

Isabel - though prefer Isobel (and have one!).

I like Helena and Elinor but not Elena.

Not overly fond of Sofia.

nelly83 · 11/02/2011 23:28

My niece is called Isabelle Sofia. I think it's a gorgeous name. So that would get my vote!

vess · 11/02/2011 23:49

They are all nice, can't choose one over the other. Probably because I have an Elena - and a Sophia, who wants to be called Isabel.

pipoca · 12/02/2011 14:14

no room for maneoevre on spellings as that-s how they-re spelt here in Spain.
pronunciation would be soFIa eLEna ISabel.
going off elena, think it-s btw sofia nad isabel now. have a friend with a sofia tho.

I'd go with Isabel so you'll have just about the same pronunciation both here and in Spain (a bit more EEsabel in Spain I would guess?)

pipoca · 12/02/2011 14:32

I think Isabel is probably the fave, altho I do love Sofia and then sophie for short and it goes beautifully with Nicolás, but oh, I don't know. Yes, would be more of an EEsabel sound. Both go beautifully with exotic sounding Spanish surname too.
decisions decisions, really stuck btw Isabel and Sofia, the friend with a Sofia does put me off a bit tho. silly.
