Magnus, Jasper, Felix or Hugo?

Only 2 weeks to go and we are having sleepless nights over our boys names. Would a Magnus be laughed at, it seems to get a very mixed response? Are Jasper and Felix too trendy now so will date? Is Hugo a better balance of unusual but classic?

Jasper and Felix are both adorable, I can't decide!

Julenelle · 10/02/2011 13:38

Of all the names, Hugo sounds to me the best, although I think Hugh is much nicer.

sonniebonnie · 10/02/2011 13:24

I like all except Hugo - the way the 'H' is pronounced isn't nice imo.
I like Jasper, Quentin and Felix (although the latter cat food connections are quite strong in my mind).

MardyBra · 09/02/2011 23:12

Good taste in names generally. Hugo is my personal favourite - classic without being too popular.

Sossiges · 09/02/2011 22:53

See which one he looks most like when he arrives

Sossiges · 09/02/2011 22:52

I like all these names, what a relief! [phew]
(Normally on these threads its all "Ebenezer, Socrates or Josiah, which one shall we choose?" [horror])
Hugh (suggested by many) is also good

IWantToBeAFairyWhenIGrowUp · 09/02/2011 22:43

Love love love Jasper - it was going to be DD's name had she been a DS.

Not keen on the others sorry.

DesertOrchid · 09/02/2011 19:25

I like Hugo!

NancyDrewHadaClue · 09/02/2011 18:50

Love Felix (DC3's name) and Jasper (would have been DC4 if I wasn't having a girl).

MoreFruitLoopthanFruitShoot · 09/02/2011 18:44

I have a Hugh - but he is mostly known (by me) as Hughbillee Dubillee. Blush

JamieLeeCurtis · 09/02/2011 18:34

Hugo - sounds the most "solid" of these names

Felix is OK

I really dislike Jasper - sorry

QuestionNumber · 09/02/2011 18:04

I think of Magnus Magnusson. Can't think of anyone else called Magnus. For some reason also reminds me of Magnum ice cream Confused

mopsyflopsy · 09/02/2011 16:40

I like Magnus the best. Jasper and Felix is nice too. No keen on Hugo as I don't like the first 'h' sound of it.

I have a Quentin so obviously love that too Smile.

Prinpo · 09/02/2011 16:33

I love Magnus and would choose it this time round but DD2's name begins with M and I'm a bit funny about not having the same initial.

Agree that Hugo is a bit try-hard.

Jasper is a bit celeb-baby.

Felix is the new naughty boys' name (or perhaps that's just at our school).

Magnus is great - I'd go for that.

QuestionNumber · 09/02/2011 16:03

That's pretty similar to Magna Carta.

lessnarkypuffin · 09/02/2011 15:26

Magnus Carter? I wouldn't sign up for that but if you have the baby, it's up to you.

belcantwait · 09/02/2011 15:21

I have a jasper and it really suits him. Love Magnus too. Felix is very popular ATM IMO and I have met loads of them

MackerelOfFact · 09/02/2011 15:15

I think Hugo is a bit try-hard posh, Felix and Jasper are cat names, but Magnus is quite nice.

What about Casper, Quentin or Augustus (Gus)?

annieapple7 · 09/02/2011 15:04

Felix, not Flexi
Flexi for a girl???

annieapple7 · 09/02/2011 15:03

I know a Flexi aged 8
I like Magnus
Met a guy the other day called Magnus Carter and thought how distinguished it sounded
If you love a name, go for it
My son is called Solomon and I love it!
Got funny looks to start with but not anymore!

AllieW · 09/02/2011 15:02

Magnus is my favourite! Reminds me of Mastermind (Magnus Magnusson) so to me it sounds like a clever kid.

gobehindabushfgs · 09/02/2011 14:45

I like Jasper and Felix

I know a delightful little Jasper - but I only know one! :)

evamummy · 09/02/2011 14:43

I still don't see what is teaseworthy about Magnus... I can see William being teased with Willy or Benedict as Bendy Dick, but Magnus....Confused.

HotchpotchHoney · 09/02/2011 13:57

jasper was on my short list for ds2, as was caspar, but xh (h at the time) said no for both.
Its a lovely name and fairly classic, not too unusual.
