WHat do you think of Jane and Jean? Not together of course, one or the other!
Which fits better with Amos, Pearl, Iris and Eli?
Haven't run them past dh, but never mind about that at the moment Grin I do already know he loves Jean though (but he prefers Augusta, Mary and Shirley) . He never suggests anything except mad Hebrew names that just won't work, so he has to choose from my lists Grin

I prefer Jean. It's lovely.

OP, just wondering - how do you pronounce Amos? Is it A-moss or A-miss?

ratspeaker · 07/02/2011 18:33

In Scotland it used to be very common for someone to have Jane as a first name but to be known by everybody as Jean

AllieW · 07/02/2011 17:41

Jean is lovely and I also like the nn Jeanie (especially when said with a Scots accent for some reason!). I find Jane rather dull, sorry.

ensure · 07/02/2011 16:15

Like them both but I definitely think Jean goes best with your other names. And it is just a bit more unusual.

gree · 07/02/2011 14:57

I like them both but I prefer jane, its dd2s middle name to counterbalance her rather flouncy and long first name.

I think both are due a comeback.

MelinaM · 07/02/2011 14:49

I prefer Jean, jane is rather plain imoSmile x

nancythenaughtyfairy · 07/02/2011 14:42

Jane is lovely and really under-used.

MrsDeidreIppy · 07/02/2011 14:03

Jean is a bit too old lady-ish. I think Jane has got over the boring/plain stage and is quite classy and pretty. Love the nickname Janey too.

LouMacca · 07/02/2011 13:58

Jane is very pretty, Jean isn't.

Pterosaur · 07/02/2011 13:34

kreecher - I have Jane as a middle name with a single syllable first name and surname. You're absolutely right.

I like the name though.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 07/02/2011 13:24

Jane. Love Jane, nothing fancy pants about it at all. Couldn't have it for our DD, she has a one sylablle sirname so it would sound barmy.

stressheaderic · 07/02/2011 13:00

Joni is nice.

Jean is not nice - reminds me of a Pat Butcher type.

putthekettleon · 07/02/2011 12:59

Jeanie is a v cute nickname for a little girl. Jane I'm not so keen on.

teobaldo · 07/02/2011 12:52

I prefer Jane as well

onimolap · 07/02/2011 12:30

I prefer Jane as well. Though I did love the "Pony for Jean" books, and think it's a nice name too.
