Not only is it a boys name across most of Europe and Russia but the spelling depends on the country, so
Sascha in Germany
Sacha in France
Sasha in Russia

I find it strange as a girls name personally.

It's a boy's name right across Europe, and in the more diverse parts of UK.

Post-Brexit, that might change, of course.

Definitely a girl's name - in UK English the final 'a' sound is used to denote it's female.

I love it! I would use Alexander though on the bc but just refer to him as Sasha from birth...

Lovely name! I also like it for a girl but prefer it for a boy..

I think of it as a traditional European boys name and I like it. It has a nice swing to it sound wise and a bit of distinctiveness.

WARNING OLD THREAD

Loads of boys called Sasha in London, btw. All my DC have classmates with that name. Haven't come across a girl, and I think they'd think it a bit odd if they did.

My nana constantly tells me my parents named me the wrong gender (I'm Alexandra and everyone calls me Sacha). I love my name and hate the 'sasha' spelling but people always seem to spell my name wrong. I've met a German lad called Sascha and we had a whole conversation about the name and it's spelling. I am fully aware my name is the boy version but I still love it and I get a little excited whenever I find people who spell their name my way regardless of gender (although I have only found guys so far!)...
What did you decide in the end?

Lovely for a boy imo. Sasha in English, Sacha in French and Sascha in German. Normally short for Alexander.

I see it very much as a boys name.

I'd spell it Sasha; Sacha is the normal French spelling.

I've only known male Sashas, mostly short for Alexander. So to my ears it is a boys' name.

There are many unisex names around - Morgan, Charlie, Rowan, Sam, Alex. It is not that strange, is it Confused.

No boy likes having a name that people see as a girl's name. Chances are he'll hate it.
Other than that, it's nice.

I really like this name. We went for another shortening of Alexander, Sander but Sasha was the alternative.

Love it as a nickname for Alexander. A lovely 5 year old in ds's class (who I think has Russian connections). Agree that 'ch' would be the french way to pronounce 'sh' (e.g. chat, chanson). Great name!

DD is Sasha and to me it has always sounded feminine.

That said, it's a terrific name so if you love it then why not :).

Sasha is a diminitive form of Alexander and Alexandra (same for boy & girl) in Russian. This name does not exist on a standalone basis. The Sacha spelling just looks bizarre imho...
