If you heard a baby was called Benedict...

would you think 'Pope'?

I like Benedict and Ben as a nickname. Like Benjamin, but DH thought Benedict was a bit more unusual.

I'm Catholic, but don't really approve of the Pope! I'm thinking he's well into his '80's so probably won't be a problem for long, but it's putting me off a bit!

I love the name it was on my list

I'm catholic and don't think pope immediately either

I like the name Benedict but DH doesn't. It makes me think of that Benedict Cumberbatch bloke and I didn't even think about the Pope tbh.

Lovely name!

I'd think eggs

greenzebra · 31/01/2011 11:12

I really like the name and it doesnt remind of the pope at all, but maybe thats because Im not catholic.

It reminds me more of the explorer benedict allen or that canadian mountie programme due south that used to be on telly.

I think its a great transition name, meaning great to be shortened to ben or benny when little and then ben or benedict when older.

Also I think its a really strong name for a male.

lovely name.

GandalfyCarawak · 31/01/2011 11:12

Pretentious imo.

I would think of St Benedict & benedictines before I thought of the current pope (but then I'm catholic & a 'Brother Cadfael' fan).

I expect that as the baby would be called Ben 99% of the time, it wouldn't actually matter.

I think Benedict is a nice name too.

sadiesadiemarriedlady · 31/01/2011 11:11

No, I would think lovely name.

MaryAnnSingleton · 31/01/2011 11:11

lovely name - nope, doesn't make me think of Pope

kreecherlivesupstairs · 31/01/2011 11:10

I prefer Benedict to Benjamin. I really doubt that anyone would associate a baby with the German Shepherd of Rome.

No, I wouldn't think Pope. Its a great name in its own right and I like the nickname Ben.
