tsc, I have listed my favourite names - the problem being they aren't necessarily my dh's favourite names. He is more of an Emily and Daniel fan. If we had another i would try and get one of my names, but it is more likely that we would have to compromise sadly.

These are the types of names I use, my DC are Valentine, Dorothea and Eleonora.

People can label it 'try too hard' if they so wish, they just happen to be the kind of names that DH and I like.

We don't all like names like Chloe, Jack, Olivia etc.

Also, I don't have 10 children and I don't plan on having 10 children so that gives me 7 'fantasy' choices, surely most peoples top ten has 'fantasy' names in the majority and these names won't be used on anyone.

The names I listed were my dc's names and middle names, and a couple of extra boys ones to make up the numbers.

I happen to still love my dc's names, - but some people have favourite names that they wouldn't necessarily USE (too poncey/chavvy/incorrectly spelt/don't go with surname) for a real child, but they are still their top names, iyswim?

i.e Harriet is on my list- I don't have a Harriet, because I have an Elliot and it seemed too similar.

In rl, they may have a jack/chloe etc because they like the name, but given the opportunity they would love to have called their pfb Fifi-Pixie Kayden Nevaeh Persephone, so these are still their favourite names.

or something...Grin

I agree Lockets there is a name in my list i love but would be afraid to use. the other nine i would use and some i have.

I didn't use my favourite names for my dds because dp didn't like them. Also, names I like now wouldn't necessarily be names I liked then - they are teenagers now and people's tastes change.

Two of the names I listed though - Thaddeus and Yoldande - I have loved since being a very bookish child... So if they are pretentious, I blame the library! :)
