Manon - teasing potential

for a girl. I was sometimes asked when I was little if I was a boy or a girl Blush - to do with my horrible boys haircut and clothes I think. But do you think if my daughter was to get similar questions, the name Manon might turn into "man" and become distressing? Weird q, I know!

I think it is lovely. I know a very very cute Manon.

PlanetLizard · 27/01/2011 22:27

I don't like it, sorry.

I have only ever known one when I was living in Cardiff but she hated it and said that she was always taunted at school with "Man on Women" so I would never use it.

I think hellymelly is right it depends where you live but my friend was teased in Wales so I'd be very concerned if there was any chance you could move away from Wales.

FlingonTheValiant · 27/01/2011 21:11

Lovely, lovely name, but I wouldn't trust English-speaking teenagers with it sadly.

Any chance you might emigrate? :o

londonmackem · 27/01/2011 21:08

Not nice!

hellymelly · 27/01/2011 21:04

Are you welsh? If you live in a welsh speaking area then no problem,as it is a classic welsh name, but in England maybe.A grown up Manon I know does get "man on top" all the time.

HelenaRose · 27/01/2011 21:01

"Man on yer face" was the first thing I thought of. ... Apparently I've been reading too much AIBU. Ahem.

Grumpla · 27/01/2011 20:30

Man on top
Man on the moon
Man on a mission (or worse, manon emission)

... Yup there is potential.

On the other hand it is a lovely name. And if you don't give them a name that's easy to take the piss out of they will just get called Fatty Smith or Specky Jones or whatever.

How about you call her Manon, but just to be on the safe side you sign her up for karate lessons too?

mozette · 27/01/2011 20:28

HUGE potential for being teased at High School 'There's Manon - she likes a Man On......'

evamummy · 27/01/2011 20:26

It doesn't sound nice in English, I'm afraid.

mopsyflopsy · 27/01/2011 20:24

In French it works, but in English or German Manon will be pronounced Man-onn. Not very feminine sounding imo.

ShowOfHands · 27/01/2011 20:23

I really, really like it. Smile And if a child is going to be cruel, they'll find anything. It's a great name.
