Morgan? for a girl??

I am from the US but live in Cardiff. Names and their uses are different in different parts of the world I suppose. I always said I would name my child Morgan whether a boy or girl. In US, this would be unique but totally fine. My husband (Welsh) tells me that there is no way you can name a girl Morgan in the UK. Thoughts please?

I like Morgan for a girl - in German, Morgen (said the same way) means Morning, so I think it's a lovely name to use for a girl.
sounds bright and cheery.

MoaningMedalllist · 31/01/2011 17:46

I like this name for both

eastendmummy · 31/01/2011 17:43

How about Mawgan - that's my name and I'm a girl!! Love it now and get huge number of compliments but do always have to spell it. Have NEVER met another in 30 years.

sounds very american, but lovely!

Sorry don't like it at all.

gaelicsheep · 29/01/2011 23:58

I like it.

MrsMcCave · 29/01/2011 23:47

I know a Spanish Morgane - with the emphasis on the second syllable. I think it is very cool, but that may be because of the person!

Plonker · 29/01/2011 21:17

I know 3 Morgans.

1 is 14 yo
2 are 11 yo

All 3 are girls. All 3 are lovely girls - none of them are chavvy or downmarket in any way.

Lovely name.

onimolap · 29/01/2011 21:08

Morrigan is a fantastic name!

I'd expect a Morgan to be a boy or a horse.

But it sort of works on a girl still because of Morgan le Fey.

NotJustKangaskhan · 29/01/2011 21:05

I've known male and female Morgans, though Morgan certainly seems more male here in the UK (I'm also an American ex-pat). Personally I would use Morrigan for a girl instead.

blushingm · 29/01/2011 20:35

i know 2 Morgans (as girls) and 1 of the lives in Mountain Ash! It's pretty as a girls name (i am in s wales too)

rachel1970 · 28/01/2011 13:20

I know a lovely female Morgan in her 30s. It suits her.

pingusmumtoo · 28/01/2011 12:00

I love it for a girl and I'm in cardiff ... but then I chose my DS name before I knew he was a boy and would have had it for a girl !

cece · 28/01/2011 11:56

I know boys and girls called Morgan.

I prefer it for a girl tbh, a bit too feminie for a boy I think.

However, having said that I am not very keen on it at all as a name.

going · 28/01/2011 11:52

I know a boy called Mrogan but I always think of it as a girls name and so I really don't think it suits him as he is quite butch. Boy or girl I don't like it!

MollysChambers · 28/01/2011 11:48

I know a little girl called Morgan. But I really don't like it. It's a bit chavvy tbh. Sorry.

suwoo · 28/01/2011 11:40

I know 3 Morgans, 2 are welsh, 1 male and 1 female. The other is from as greenwing put it, a rather 'downmarket' area within my city.

wishwales · 28/01/2011 11:37

The trouble is that my little brother's middle name is Morgan. When his wife got pregnant, she was going to use the name whether they had a boy of a girl. I insisted that they don't because I had been saying for years that I was going to do that. They settled for Madison but there has always been resentment and hostility. I wish I hadn't done that but I was not quite mature then. Now my Mom and SIL have both asked me if I was going to do what I said and call the baby Morgan!!! Major expectations! Live and learn...

Morgan is a surname or a car. Much prefer Megan.
