Formal name for nm "Ellie"

My DH loves Ellie as a name, but I like more formal names - old fashioned ones. Is Ellie short for anything so we can compromise? A family members DD is Eleanor so we can't use this one. Not that keen on Elizabeth. Thanks!

Ellie is used for a nn for Eleanor ime.

I know an Ellen who's nn is Ellie.

You might get away with Helen.

Ellie is very common around here, half the girls are shortened to (or actually just are) Ellie
