Can you suggest a compromise name for us?

Hello, I am newly pregnant so its a bit early to think about names but I can't help myself!
Me and my OH seem to like really different sorts of names for girls, his suggestions so far have been a bit 'cutsey' for me, he likes
Daisy
Molly
Maisie
The names I like are
Sophia
Sabrina
Lila
Cora
Verity
Melissa
My OH thinks that my names are a bit 'foreign' sounding and wouldn't suit a child that is likely to be blond and pale.
Can anyone suggest something that would be a middle ground? We both like (but don't love)Isabel / Isobel, so this is one possibility.

Violet

IAmTheCookieMonster · 26/01/2011 15:03

Amelie/ Milly?

hazelnutlatte · 26/01/2011 10:12

We both like Emillia / Millie and Isla but those are the names of a friends children.
We don't know many people with young children though, so when I suggest names that are actually quite normal he thinks they are wierd! Hence why he likes Emillia and Isla - he can associate them with a real person!
Anyway I think I need to stop obsessing about this so early!

Elizabeth as there are lots of nn you could go for.

DS1 had a compromise name and I was a bit meh about it at the time. Now I love it and soooo glad that we went for it.

StarlightPrincess · 25/01/2011 22:53

How about Aurora?

JojoMags · 25/01/2011 19:48

Also dislike Freya. Timetomove's friends have great taste. Love all the names they are considering for DD2.

walkinZombie · 25/01/2011 16:29

Isobella?

theres a lovely Bulgarian name , Alillia, girlie but really good too you may hate hate just thought I'd put it out there lol

PlanetLizard · 25/01/2011 16:13

Dislike Freya I'm afraid.

Angelmist · 25/01/2011 16:03

Best wishes choosing..........

timetomove · 25/01/2011 15:58

i know a couple who had a similar dilemma. She likes cutesy Molly, Milly type names (generally ending in ee), he likes Sophia, Olivia, Amelia type names (generally 3 syllables ending in a)

Their DD is called Emilia, aka Milly. Both forms are in use.

They are expectiing DC2. If a girl, they are planning a similar approach again. Options they are toying with are Annabella/Annie, Harriet/Hattie, Rosanna/Rosie and Katherine/Kitty.

Interesting to see which version trumps when they get to school.

If you don't want to go the dual approach, what about Sophie as a slightly cutsier variation on Sophia.

No comment on what your DH thinks sounds 'foreign' Smile, but since he seems to like names that end in Y or IE, how about:

Lucy
Ivy
Josie
Sally
Holly
Leonie
Sylvie
Naomi
Cecily
Amelie/ Emilie
Romy
Romilly
Sophie

And short and sweet:
Isla
Pippa
Ailsa
Lara
Laura
Sarah
Leah
Emma
Eliza
Alice
Kate

IAmTheCookieMonster · 25/01/2011 15:43

Flora?

hazelnutlatte · 25/01/2011 15:37

Well I have about 34 more weeks to decide so I'm sure we will find a name we both love by then - We came up with a boys name in about 5 minutes!
I might be able to convince him on Verity but not sure if I can use it as my friend was going to name her child this - she changed her mind in the end but don't know if she would mind me stealing it!
Not keen on Megan or Matilda really.
What do you think of Freya? (just saw this on another thread)

MardyBra · 25/01/2011 15:21

Why compromise? Your names are much nicer than DH's imho. Wink

cumbria81 · 25/01/2011 15:11

Megan?

Hullygully · 25/01/2011 15:07

What about Sabrolly?
Or Laisy?

Aims80 · 25/01/2011 15:06

I love Verity!

I guess a comprimise would be something like Iris, Matilda etc

hazelnutlatte · 25/01/2011 15:03

Some good suggestions so far thank you.
I do like Lily and Sophie but don't love them, maybe they will grow on me.
Charlotte is a lovely name - but its the name of one of my best friends so that would be a bit wierd! Not keen on Elizabeth although do like Libby. I love Mia but know DP will hate it and think I've made it up!
I'm not too bothered about popularity but I have looked at the top 100 names from 2009 - and now i've seen i'm not sure I would knowingly pick a top 10 name - wish I hadn't looked!

Lily?

IAmTheCookieMonster · 25/01/2011 14:26

Elizabeth

Sophisticated but lends itself to cutesy nicknames

Lizzie, Libby, Eliza, Lissy, Betty, Betsy...

Tysonandthehouseelves86 · 25/01/2011 14:19

What about Sophie, its similar to Sophia and kind of cutesy?

CharlieBoo · 25/01/2011 14:18

I like Daisy, Molly and Sophia...

Do you not like popular?

How about Layla, Charlotte, Marcella, Mia, jemima, Lauren, Eliza, Emily, Anna.
