Sigh-Anne.

I thought the woman was mispronouncing Sian, then saw the name written down. Sigh-Anne. I mean, what on earth...?

the other was a little boy called Ragen. As in Ronald Regan, but Ragen. Ragen? I am not a name snob, but I do draw the line at deliberately misspelling surnames and then using them as a first name! Grin

Agree that most the others mentioned are horrors, though.

I don't dislike precious....for a girl. I know a precious (male) he obviously wasn't a fan as as soon as he was old enough he changed his name to Stephen.

My sister taught a Jenna, which is pretty ordinary and nothing to laugh at but her surname was Taylor. Say it out loud, running the two words together.

Poor lass Sad

PitchandPotch · 28/01/2011 22:25

I forgot one!

I work with Chris Moss

(and have to resist the urge to say "we wish you a merry" every time I hear his name)

Why he doesn't insist on Christopher I don't know!

DaisyChainGang · 28/01/2011 22:03

Nikhil, pron. "nickel" but in fairness I think it's a foreign name.

PitchandPotch · 28/01/2011 21:58

I've name-changed for this!

I went to school with

Emma Lynn Hughes (she hated it!)

I worked on a deal which had the following clients

William Rash (English)
Randy Bishop (Canadian)

And a dear friend Hiedi whose dad registered her name and when asked how to spell it went by the rule "i before e except after c"

Underconstruction · 28/01/2011 21:17

I used to work regularly with a Vanky Mak. One day his secretary phoned up and introduced herself. It was unfortunate that when he'd interviewed for a secretary he hadn't found a way to check her pronunciation. In Hong Kong it is common for people to pronounce V as W. I had to take the call while my colleague who'd picked up the phone first sat bent double with tears streaming down her cheeks next to me.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 28/01/2011 21:06
