Sigh-Anne.

I thought the woman was mispronouncing Sian, then saw the name written down. Sigh-Anne. I mean, what on earth...?

the other was a little boy called Ragen. As in Ronald Regan, but Ragen. Ragen? I am not a name snob, but I do draw the line at deliberately misspelling surnames and then using them as a first name! Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Did you see it spelt? Are you sure it's not just Cheyenne? It's a Native Indian name, I know a few.

AppleHEAD · 13/04/2011 23:42

puddeycat · 07/04/2011 18:51

I went to school with a girl called Ginnie, not very unusual untill you know her full name! VAGINA -JANE and her brother was called Syke!!!!

MamaLazarou · 31/03/2011 19:30

Love Diamond. seriously! Precious, though - reminds me of Gollum, or the serial killer's dog in Silence of the Lambs.

Pachelbel · 31/03/2011 14:44

Jesus is a perfectly common Spanish name, and doesn't have the connotations that it has in the UK.

I've met sisters called Precious and Diamond, and also a Bayleee. Yes, three 'E's on the end..

kreecherlivesupstairs · 31/03/2011 12:43

I just read about a young woman called Collagen. It was on the DM website and she is having cosmetic surgery so I don't know if it is real.

MamaLazarou · 31/03/2011 12:37

Worst ones I have known personally are Bethenay, Sian (pronounced 'see-ann'), Aryan and Posy Parker.

Hedwig3 · 31/03/2011 12:29

I have taught a few children with interesting names

The worst are the ones that look like something else written in the register, like...

Orifice pn Orifeechee
Jesus pn Hayzeus

anabelish · 31/03/2011 12:19

we've named our baby 'Otter'. He's adorable. :) We love nature names and wanted something without obvious precedent.

CorrieQueen · 20/03/2011 09:47

I met a little boy called Saxon the other day.

EllenJane1 · 19/03/2011 23:18

I went to school with Richard Stiff. I knew a family who's children were Gaive (boy), Heathcliff and Nada (girl). There's a Chinese family at school who's boys are Jimihendrix and Bobdylan. I know a family called Storm (girl), Kelly (boy) and Jazz (girl).

MegBusset · 19/03/2011 23:05

There's a Sidnee (girl) and a Neo (boy) at DS1's nursery. Also a Lennon which sounds like Lenin in the local accent.

strawberrycake · 19/03/2011 21:47

I have a host from teaching over the years!

I see a lot of Precious/ Blessings etc. but it's to be expected here and they don't stand out. A few Princess or Queens too. Others have translated badly (Poor Chit-paul called Shit-ball or 'Manmeet'(F))

My top I've taught are:

  1. One that is so strange I don't want to identify, but it's 9 letters and no vowels and we STILL don't know what to call him so use the first initial only, it's a collection of letters from relatives names.
  2. Heavenli-Angel
  3. Peachez
  4. (Twins) Nutmeg and Cinnamin (sic)
  5. 'See-Anne' (spelt Sean-they saw it in film credits)

No, Candida is not popular in America, I can assure you! At least not my little corner of it. :)

One of my friends is dating a man named Thalamus.
