Sigh-Anne.

I thought the woman was mispronouncing Sian, then saw the name written down. Sigh-Anne. I mean, what on earth...?

the other was a little boy called Ragen. As in Ronald Regan, but Ragen. Ragen? I am not a name snob, but I do draw the line at deliberately misspelling surnames and then using them as a first name! Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
meadowlarks · 22/01/2011 15:40

Orion Ajax was a particularly good one, I thought.

spidookly · 22/01/2011 15:29

Ah, you learn something new every day. Thanks :)

I think Osiris is a great name.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 22/01/2011 12:42

Talking of Cbeebies there was a card for a Cookie the other week Hmm

cornishshelley · 22/01/2011 10:35

I generally say each to their own but a few i've heard include Fox, Dark and twins called samuel & samantha but my favourite was the teenage mum who wanted to call her daughter clamidyia until someone told her what it was (told to me by my health visitor not sure if it's an urban tale but it made me laugh!)

MissBeehiving · 22/01/2011 10:17

I did come across a Baccardi (sic) once. Obviously the extra "c" gave it a bit of class Wink

lovemybabyboy · 22/01/2011 00:14

I saw a name tag on a shelf at nursery....Tiger-Lee!?! Shock dont know if that was a boy or girl! Hmm

MollysChambers · 22/01/2011 00:11

I knew a Hebe at school. It was pronounced Heb-ah. She was Egyptian.

onimolap · 21/01/2011 22:41

Timetomove: yes. She was a daughter of Zeus, and cup-bearer to the gods.

timetomove · 21/01/2011 22:30

How is Hebe pronounced? Does it rhyme with Phoebe?

Exogenesis · 21/01/2011 22:29

I know a Rainbow and A tree.

onimolap · 21/01/2011 22:24

My DS was at nursery with an Osiris. Also recently in the park, I heard someone calling for a boy named Adonis.

Tortoise · 21/01/2011 21:14

Odyssey is one that has appeared locally!

eatyourveg · 21/01/2011 21:14

I know a woman who has named her youngest Tuppence.

BTW I don't think Hebe is strange at all. I know one and have never thought of it as particularly unusual

KenDoddsDadsDog · 21/01/2011 21:10

My living room is painted in Farrow & Ball Dimity!

WimpleOfTheBallet · 21/01/2011 21:07

No Spidookly...Dimity is a type of fabric.it's a English word I'm sure...very old one.

spidookly · 21/01/2011 21:06

Ryanne is a relatively normal name in the US

pinkmagic1 · 21/01/2011 21:04

Heard a mother shouting 'Ceaser' at her DS the other day, as in Julius!

ValiumSilverTongue · 21/01/2011 21:00

I know of a Ryanne. Not crazy about it but I think this is a certain trend, and won't be exactly rare.

chickbean · 21/01/2011 20:56

Pepsi

Mother a Wham fan?

HettyAmaretti · 21/01/2011 20:54

Vanity. Yes really.

thomasbodley · 21/01/2011 20:52

Wasn't Titty one of the children in 'Swallows and Amazons'?

I recently heard of a child called Finn Moore. If he goes to boarding school he's going to be "Morphine" (Moor, Finn), I guarantee it.
